Default Guitar Obsessions

I was in guitar center yesterday, and I realized something: I'm a guitar nerd. I spent 3 hours playing a Marcus Miller signature Jazz bass through a music man amp, and then an Ibanez Steve Vai signature Jem on one of those fancy digital Line 6 amps where you can adjust it to blues, metal, insane, etc., and had a shred-off with my friend. Needless to say, I lost, because I suck at guitar, but I was happy with the bass. I do stuff like this (and much more extreme) whenever I get the chance, which leads me to the point of this thread. The point of this thread is to see if there's anybody out there that's as much, if not more, into guitars and basses than I am.

That's pretty cool that you're that into it. I play and I'm taking lessons, but all I can do is read music and do some chords, so I can't really make my own songs or anything, But I want to really go somewhere with it.

=[ I'm working towards that. I can play them seperately, but I need to learn to play them together.

i love guitars!!
im great at bass and alright at the 6 stringed stuff. the stratocaster has to be my all time favourite guitar, not just because hendrix and clapton played them but because they are just great instruments. the sound and layout are extremely brilliant. ive only ever been lucky enough to play it but never to own one. i currently have an acoustic black fender i got one christmas and a really crappy electric which could do with new stings and a tune up, hey why not get a new one all together!

I have a stratocaster, I could sell my old one and get the new 60th Anniversary one, but I'll wait till they do a 75th one special

here's me and my stratocaster:

Funny, my First Act ( :'[ ) one looks just like that, except the plate (or whatever that white part is called) is shaped slightyly differently.

Good idea. But 15 years kinda seems like a long wait.

you might want to learn about the anatomy of the instrument that you're playing so you'll know what stuff is when you need to repair or replace it

here's a basic diagram of what you need to know, there's more than this that you should know about

I did write one song though, it's not that good though, but it has better lyrics that make people think, just like the lyrics of some of the best bands from the good ol' days of R&R

I twiddle with bob (My guitar) a lot, and then play the music for my lessons, but I don't really write songs yet. I do write a lot of lyrics though.

I'd like to hear that sometime.

If you like Joe Satriani you're a guitar nerd.

Joe Satriani kicks soooooooooo much ***! I like The Summer Song and Surfing with The Alien. His jam with Vai and Petrucci on G3 was insane! Ya, I suck at guitar, except for shredding, but when I pick up a decent bass and start playing, I'm always like, "Dude! I didn't know I could do that!" So thats me for ya.

A bit of advice on life that kinda applies to everything: If you're not good at it, you'll never enjoy it. And Vice Versa. Except for sex. But, when you get a job, find something that you like to do, otherwise you'll never be happy. If you enjoy playing, you'll eventually get good.
