We really need a 'chat thread' on top of the 'chat box' we already have? I'm assuming it's because it recently got polluted by that 'sex troll' there.

I suppose we don't "need" it really, but considering the amount of thread derailment that occurs, we might as well have one thread where anything goes from the beginning. And though the chat box is nice, it's not really for extended conversation.

Still questioning whether or not I should major in art. I don't know if my doubt is due to lack of confidence or genuine interest in an alternative course of life. I guess it's both.

i just finished The gymnasium in denmark (it's like college. i think (i'm 19) soo i'm moving to copenhagen to work and relax for a year before studying more ..

Nicky: Try it! Use those electives up on some crazy stuff you'd never thought of and maybe you'll find something you love. That's what clubs are for too.

Snow: That strikes me as such a dry combination of studies. History is neat, but I'd never want to major in it. What's the appeal to you?

Hullet: So how'd that work? You graduated high school, did college for a year, and are able to take a break before continuing? Is the gymnasium more of a vocational school than a university?

It's really hard to explain but .. we go to school from 0 to 9th grade then the gymnasium for 3 years .. then you graduate, and can go for university or whatever you want, but most people take a year break for traveling or working, before seeking in.. don't know if i will ever seek in, kinda school fed up right now..

That's right, "college" for you is basically high school for us, and "university" is where you go after kindergarten-12th grade.

Is it common for you guys to be able to get decent jobs without university? I want to stay in school as long as possible :B

So far I'm having fun with the tuition hikes the CSU system loves to impose on students like myself. Yeah...unfortunately I wasn't 'smart' enough for the private education.

Finished my second year at RIT. That's really all there is to say about that. Glad to see everyone else is doing alright.

Ah, it's so cute. Every year, the costs go up and more emails go out: "We're sorry to inform you we cannot reward the ____ scholarship to you this year, poor college student, as government funding has been cut. Have a nice life, try to cut down on that pesky eating thing."

Yeah its tough, I'm lucky to have got scholarships and well its pretty much free for uni here (we get low interest government loans that we don't repay until we earn a minimum of $30k a year and it gets taken out automatically) but its expensive if I were paying for mine up front its like $9k a semester for a five year degree.

Yeah, I found out I've been awarded one of the scholarships I applied to, and thus my tuition is payed for, but that still leaves living and eating expenses, which are still in the thousands, so I can't imagine doing it without scholarships. And wow, $9k. Mine would be about $5k a semester, which I thought was bad, haha. That loan system is interesting. If I had loans, I would choose subsidized, which means I wouldn't start paying them back with interest until I graduated from university.

Yeah here they organize how much a degree costs by "bands" and because I'm doing law thats in the top band so we have to pay the most, if you do like nursing or teaching its only $2k a semester. I have a scholarship for my accomodation too which was very lucky and government payments so this year I'm actually pretty set but next year I'll be broke like everybody else.
