I admit... due to a particular person who was in my life for a while a few years ago, I can say I have an appreciation for the funk sound. I'm not super familiar with the genre or its artists though. Like I can't name any off the top of my head.

(I know this is matt's thread, but I can try, right?)

I'd say since you can't talk to them to find out what's wrong, you should instead start boosting their mood by saying any nice thing you can, and congratulating them when ever possible. Any small thing you can say or do for them could help, and maybe they'll lift up out of their funk a little.
