![]() I write to you today to ask the question what has become of online flash sports games?
Our society has once again fallen into the quantity over quality scenario where putting out games every day that can be played for about the same quantity of time, is more of a priority than putting out good quality games that have been seriously thought out and taken the feedback of gamers into account in the process. Clicking our way through portals of ongoing advertising and thousands of games that all seem to be the same, learning nothing in the process. It's shocking really since the evolution in Flash technology has been taken to never before seen heights with endless possibilities. Have you guys seen anything lately worth checking out? |

![]() Someone's gotta have some thoughts on the subject - are we doomed to mindless flash gaming forever?

![]() Well, most of the flash designers making these games are getting income only from the ad revenue on their personal webpages, so they don't really have the resources to spend on some epic flash game.
If they did make said epic game, they have to either pay out for the bandwidth hosting it on their webpage would consume or host it on a portal. If they host it on a portal, they don't stand to make any money off the revenue the ads on the page bring in, and sometimes larger files require a paid membership to host anyway. So they put the smaller games on the portals to try to bring people to their personal webpage, where they host more small games in the hopes that somebody looking for a flash designer will commission them to make a bigger game so they can either afford the bandwidth or the membership. The only other route they might go is to work on collaborations, which often turn out to be excellent games. So the moral of this story is that you should only play flash collaborations. If there's only one designer, it's prolly gonna suck. |

![]() Also, the accessibility and power of modern flash designing tools draws really bad flash designers to the arena, most of whom do one of three things (in terms of games and/or animations): one-offs that suck; series that suck; suck for a few years, then become okay but unsuccessful, host a handful of flashes that garner minimal attention on a shitty webpage with advertisements exclusively by Google AdSense, eventually stop updating, and fade slowly from eyes of the internet.

![]() If they are declining, it's at a much slower rate than console/PC games. There are so many that come out each day that there are bound to be multiple shining stars, whereas only a few console games a week come out.

![]() Quote:
No thought process is being implicated anymore, flash is awesome and there's so many who just learn what they need to without having an understanding for the program or an overall plan for their concept. Snow, I would like to agree with you, but with console games, there are much larger budgets involved with resources most small companies and individuals can only hope to have access to. I've seen a few good ones tho. The independent companies seem to be coming back, which is encouraging. |

![]() That and there isn't much financial initiative for making a flash game/movie. The most you can get as a flash game/movie creator would possibly be donations from the 'good viewers'. The number of artists who make the good flash games/movies are probably diminishing because of this issue. Software for making flash also costs money so the motivation or initiative of making a flash game or movie is very little and most of the people who do this are probably kids or younger people who have such time and resources on their hands. Dudeo probably brought this up but if anything, I agree with his point.

![]() It's along the same reason as to why most of Canada & the US's clothing manufacturing takes place in the East, noteably China. The demand is so high that they can charge rediculous prices that the local makets just can't compete with, which doesn't put the average owner with much of a choice if they want to produce more with less.
It's going to take a few key players to make the bold move into serious flash gaming, which keeps your interest for more than 5 minutes at a time, but as you said, in order to do that, it takes money. The whole negative mindset surrounding flash games must be shifted beforehand to convince people that some games are worth paying a small fee if it offers dynamic content and fluid gmaeplay. Communities are another thing that are rare, not just communities that spawn from crappy games and end up being nothing about the game anymore. lol I agree with Duedo as well "one-offs that suck; series that suck; suck for a few years, then become okay but unsuccessful, host a handful of flashes that garner minimal attention on a shitty webpage with advertisements exclusively by Google AdSense, eventually stop updating, and fade slowly from eyes of the internet.
