Default The Xbox 360 is a piece of shit

I was attempting to do a RROD repair for a friend, but Microsoft felt the need to make the Xbox 360 case needlessly complicated. Not only is removing the plastic shell a total pain in the ass, but the heat sinks uses the smaller T6 Torx head screws, and my smallest Torx head screwdriver is the T10.

The console was previously repaired by someone else, and they actually drilled holes into the metal shielding and replaced the T6 Torx screws on the GPU heat sink with larger Phillips-head screws and extra washers. I'll probably go to Sears and see if they carry the T6.

If I can't fix it I might just remove the GPU and turn it into a keyfob or something.

I turned my 360 into a makeshift toaster. And it can't even do that properly.

I got an E74 error, so I could sent it away to the far off mystical land of Mesquite, TX for free.

They also were late shipping it back by like 3 weeks.

I wasn't really calling the 360 a piece of shit because of the RROD itself, but due to awful case design. This 360 was out of warranty, and Microsoft wants $100 to fix the RROD. Also, this console had been previously modified so I'm not even sure if Microsoft would repair it for a fee.

No. If there are any modifications at all to the hardware, they won't touch it.

They probably made it that way to deter self-repairs...

Also, Microsoft will never fix an Xbox that wasn't repaired by them. Basically if you don't waste your money on them then you're blacklisted.

Yep...as Supa Fool said, it's probably some ploy by Microsoft to make sure you come crawling back to them if your 360 breaks down or something.

I've repaired multiple handheld consoles as well as phones and mp3 players. The reason Microsoft won't repair consoles that have been modified by end users is that they can most likely be held responsible by the FCC if a console they repaired behaved in a destructive manner, even if it was the result of a modification that happened before Microsoft repaired the console. There is also the knowledge that if somebody tries a modification and fails, Microsoft won't repair it, so screwing said somebody out of the cost of the console, thus deterring mods by less technologically-inclined people.

Valve games are designed for PC, and ported to console by serious demand.

Oh, Gabe Newell hates PS3.

Valve doesn't actually port their games to the 360, but instead hands the work off to a company called Certain Affinity. Valve titles run hilariously bad on the platform considering how dated the game engine really is. I'm actually surprised that the hardcore Xbox fans don't notice how bad the port jobs are.

Updating the engine is what put Duke Nukem Forever in the garbage heap. It costs too much for a simple port, and the majority of console gamers don't actually care.

Actually, for the amount of money the 360 version brings in, supporting the platform properly would not be much of an issue. You're right though; the majority of the Xbox crowd and Xbox-centric media is too stupid to realize that they are being ripped off.

Not precisely what I said, but valid I guess. You could equate a lower standard with stupidity given that there's really no compelling reason for them not to demand updated ports.

The PC version supports both dedicated and peer to peer hosted servers. The 360 version like all 360 games(except for a few EA titles), is peer to peer only.

I don't think it's that, but I think it's rather because Microsoft wants a slice of that action we call the gaming industry.
