Default Windows XP help?

I think the probability that I have a virus is relatively high. Either that or Windows firewall is being over active.

All the accounts on my computer are locked out of using every program except Firefox and maybe some others. Even the admin account. I can't change or remove programs, open Internet Explorer, iTunes, and I can't run cmd or regedit. Either I have a virus or Windows is locking me out because I went into the registry and disabled the product code requirement.

Any suggestions? Tomorrow or the next day I'll probably wipe out my hard drive and reinstall XP.

This time I'll install virus protection before I set up my internet.

EDIT: I get the error message: windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have appropriate permissions to access the item.

There's your problem. Why would you do that, anyway?

So I don't have to contribute $99 to a man worth more than $5.6 billion.

Besides, I don't think going into the registry and entering a code that replaces the thirty-day activation requirement would make everything on the computer fuck up.

Yeah, you really shouldnt have done that. Your screwed. I completely agree with you about not shelling out the money to Microsoft, but there are other ways to get past it. Google is your friend...

Yes let's not pay the people working minimum wage to support their kids.
That money doesn't all end up in the big and rich's pocket.

Shouldn't be having kids if your only making minimum wage really.

That's how our friend Natus got here. Shame he's not supporting people like him.

Use avast antivirus and run a boot time scan. It will not open the disabled options but clear the spyware doing all this. Then you have to manually edit the registery.
