View Full Version : Which is your favorite Final Fantasy?
Natus Lumen 03-17-2007, 10:27 PM I'm not putting down all of the FF games, as that would be kind of lame. Just the most popular ones.
Edit: I made it multiple choice, but please don't pick more than two.
I've been meaning to go back and play 9 because I hear it's good but after playing the ones with full speech I don't know if I can go back.
Ryu-Nacho 03-18-2007, 09:24 AM The only one I had the tolerance to play was X-2. =(
I've tried 7, 8, and 12, but I just couldn't get into them.
No, wait...actually, Tactics was the best. It's not an option though.
Drunken_Shinobi 03-18-2007, 11:17 AM What happened to all the ones before 7?
Part Nicky 03-19-2007, 03:47 PM People say they were pretty bad.
Ryu-Nacho 03-19-2007, 04:25 PM I always hear that the old FF3 was the best.
Part Nicky 03-19-2007, 04:31 PM The only one I ever really liked was Final Fantasy 10... I'm still pissed that they took those characters away from me. Stupid Final Fantasy 7, it's not even that great of a game. Yet it gets a sequel movie adaption, and anime, and a remake, and a spin off. WTF?
.
Natus Lumen 03-19-2007, 05:50 PM @ Pink Floyd: Me too. I'd like to get a copy before they get discontinued. Granted, the first FF I played was 10, so I find the lame graphics and lack of dialogue a little annoying.
@ Drunken Shinobi: Games 7 and 10 sold more copies that everything before 7 combined. I really don't think they were that popular, at least not in the mainstream.
@ Ryu-Nacho: A lot of the FF loyalists say that they hate FFX-2 with a passion, not only because it was the first direct sequel but because they hated playing as skanky girls. I found that I almost had to stop playing the game as I did that massage scene with LeBlanc in my living room...that wasn't too good. 12 did suck, 7 is hard to get into and 8 is...okay.
@ Part Nicky: I've found myself thinking the same thing on many different occasions, but then I found that the guy who wrote the story for 7, 9, and both 10s quit after 10-2, and started his own company. He still contracts out video game stories to Square, but he has a grudge against the guy that owns square, or something, so they won't work together anymore.

Well that's just great.
Ryu-Nacho 03-19-2007, 06:58 PM @ Ryu-Nacho: A lot of the FF loyalists say that they hate FFX-2 with a passion, not only because it was the first direct sequel but because they hated playing as skanky girls. Those FF loyalists are just picky. The game was fun enough, and it got some good scores from professional reviews.
But, I remember that massage scene you're talking about. Every game has it's downs. =P
Natus Lumen 03-19-2007, 06:59 PM Yeah, it does kind of suck. After Advent Children, Square realized that they really couldn't make a good sequel without that guy writing the stories. If Square did two things and then went out of buisness, I would be happy. They are:
A) Publish a full-length movie as an adaptation or follow up to 10.
B) Remake 7 with awesome graphics and better gameplay (or for that matter better everything) for ps3 or ps2.

That's what I tell them. I really liked 10-2 and most reviewers gave it as good or better scores than 10. I found it nearly impossible to get 100% completion and see the "Perfect" Ending, though. Other than that, it was very enjoyable.
BTW, the massage scene was where YRP dressed up as goons and snuck into that chateau or whatever at the end of Ch. 3. LeBlanc was depressed about something so Yuna was ordered to give her a massage. LeBlanc made all these really erotic noises and said stuff like, "Oh THERE!" and "Keep Going that's PERFECT!" It was really awkward.
Part Nicky 03-19-2007, 08:10 PM It was all the more awkward for me because my mom is a fan of the Final Fantasy series with my sisters and I... so she watched my sister play the whole game from beginning to end. O_o They should have just made a spin off for Auron instead.

Just because it wasn't popular doesn't mean the game never existed.

I think FF10 wasn't that great...some of the new gameplay was interesting, but it wasn't that great. First off some of the characters' costumes looked strange, like Titus's costume. If I compared FF10 to FF7, I'd have to go with FF7 because I think it's cooler and I like that story better.
Part Nicky 03-19-2007, 09:35 PM FF7 designs were boring and plain.

Though I admit I thought Titus was a girl when I first saw him... it was he first moment he talked that really caught me off guard.
Drunken_Shinobi 03-19-2007, 09:57 PM They probably seem boring and plain to you because the FF7 designs were drawn and the FF10 ones were basically done in 3D. I can admit that the FF10 designs are more colorful but they still just seem weird to me. Usually I try not to judge the games by character designs but I had to say something about the design for FF10.
Part Nicky 03-19-2007, 10:06 PM Character designs are the main reason why people get interested in playing games in the first place. I generally only play games with beautiful people, though I never realize it until after I turn the games off.
guess_who_i_am 03-20-2007, 02:04 AM This poll fails for not putting on FFTAdvance (which wasn't as good as Fire Emblem but it wasn't that horrible) or the older ones which are much better than the overrated pieces of crap you have up there.
Ryu-Nacho 03-20-2007, 05:09 PM FFT Advance was kinda dumbed down compared to the original FFT of PS1. I was pretty disappointed. Still fun though, I guess.

Very beautiful people...don't make me bust out Seymour or Tromel....
Part Nicky 03-20-2007, 06:04 PM Oh God, not Seymour......

I usually play the game if it has good reviews.

Ahhhh, Yojimbo. That guy is so cool.

I don't pay attention to reviews much... I lost faith in them after that whole Sonic Next Gen fiasco.
Drunken_Shinobi 03-21-2007, 09:51 PM I also buy a game if my friends said it was good, and it makes me more likely to just buy the game and play it.
guess_who_i_am 03-22-2007, 03:50 AM FFT Advance was kinda dumbed down compared to the original FFT of PS1. I was pretty disappointed. Still fun though, I guess.
And FFT was just a dumbed down version of Fire Emblem.
Ryu-Nacho 03-22-2007, 04:19 PM I wouldn't know GWIA. Never played Fire Emblem. Maybe I should correct that?

Oh yes. I went there.
Anyway, the point I'm making with this monstrosity is that FF10 was the first FF game to have character designs that totally kicked ass. Not to mention that 10 integrated the best of all worlds, with good gameplay, abstract yet fun and slightly believable characters, sweet graphics, and a really good storyline to it. The game is just a pleasure to play. I don't think any other FF integrates any of these things, which is why 10 was the most popular. FF7 had all these things for its day, but 10 basically outdates it. If they remade 7 for the ps3, it would actually make Sony's stock go up in addition to setting records for the video game world.
As a side note, I think there was probably a whole division devoted to animating Seymour's hair in FF10.
Part Nicky 03-23-2007, 10:14 PM He'd actually look half-decent if there weren't any veins...
Drunken_Shinobi 03-24-2007, 01:06 AM Seymour's face scares me...
Part Nicky 03-24-2007, 06:04 PM It's his voice that gets to me... "I will destroy Spira... I will SAVE IT!"
Natus Lumen 03-24-2007, 07:40 PM I think his voice sounds pretty awesome. It will be all faint and good-humored one second and then the next he'll be all hissing about how he wants to become sin. He's probably my favorite Final Fantasy antagonist. Him and Sephiroth in Advent Children. Sephiroth in 7 was kind of lame.
Part Nicky 03-24-2007, 08:20 PM Why isn't 8 up there? People seemed to like that one too.
Natus Lumen 03-24-2007, 09:49 PM I thought 8 was one of the lamest games I've ever played. Too much time and not enough benefit. That is, it wasn't that much fun for all the time I spent playing it. Sort of like reading The Once and Future King.
No one cares about gunblades.

FF 7 was one of the first games to use 3D computer graphics featuring fully rendered characters on pre-rendered backgrounds. From a visual aspect, people were pretty interested. Not to mention FF7 had by far the most intricate, dark plot attempted by any RPG of the day, and in many aspects, still today.
Who gives a shit, it's a pointless argument.
This is the plot of FF7 summed up:
"OMG THE GIRL WHO I WAS GONNA SCREW DIED! NOW IMM LIEK GONNA GO STAB THAT VILLAIN WHO LOOKS LIKE A GIRL!!!"

That's... great.....

This generally applies to most every argument that anyone under the age of 18 can have.
Natus Lumen 04-01-2007, 01:29 PM I just went and watched the ending to FFX. Yes, I almost cried. Again.
Okay not really. I'm not that much of a loser. But the plot of X and X-2 are really intricate and tie a lot of things in. Especially X-2, and how it all tied in to what happened in X and stuff. I actually have yet to see the "perfect ending" of X-2. I'm level 99 and I haven't beaten Trema. Damn it.
Ok, I can understand the votes for 10. It was a good game. Good gameplay, good story. But 10-2? Are u honestly saying you enjoyed 'Team YRP' more than 10 or 7. Cause thats what ur saying, essentially. That cant be right. Ok, 10-2 want the worst game in the series ( that title belongs to CC), but it is certainly the worst in the poll. My God, even 9, with monkey-boy is better.
Natus Lumen 04-05-2007, 05:52 PM I liked 10-2. I didn't necessarily enjoy YRP but the place in the mushroom rock ravine...the Bevelle underground...Maechen's stories, seeing what happened in the spheres...stuff like that. Blizball sucked, and so did some of the missions, especially the cactuar one and watching the sphere things in chapter 4, but all in all it was a good game to end a story that was totally awesome.

But was it better than 10 or 7? No. No way in hell.
Ryu-Nacho 07-23-2007, 08:15 PM 7 was crap. Haven't played 10.
By the way, lulz @ dead topic.
Edrifen 07-27-2007, 06:38 PM The best FF for me is FFV>.. But, itīs not on the list, so no problem. FFXII is the second best.
7 was crap.
Why do you say that? I don't disagree but I'm just wondering.
Ryu-Nacho 07-31-2007, 03:54 PM I don't know. I have the game, but I just couldn't get into it. I didn't enjoy what I played. Of course, since I didn't enjoy the first couple hours, I decided not to try anything after that. It's been a while, so I can't remember much, but it was probably something to do with the battle system.
