View Full Version : The Console Revolution
aaproductions 11-16-2006, 06:48 PM Hey Everybody,
As the release for the Sony PS3 (Which please say this with me, the logo looks like a spiderman font!), and the Nintendo Wii (Which I have preordered). I am a huge fan of the Wii, and I greatly support it, so I bring you some Nintendo Wii commercials:
<a class="wmv" href="http://gprime.net/video.php/wiicommercial1">wii commercial 1</a> [ 1.2 mb ]
<a class="wmv" href="http://gprime.net/video.php/wiicommercial2">wii commercial 2</a> [ 1.1 mb ]
And then, if you arent into the big video-game craze, I bring you a 'Hyperactive' style beat box drum set (some description, eh?) video.
<a class="wmv" href="http://gprime.net/video.php/lassegjertsenamateur">lasse gjertsen (amateur)</a> [ 7.7 mb ]
Well, I wont be here for awhile, I'll be standing outside Bestbuy to get my PS3, and my Wii. Wish me luck, it will be cold!
Natus Lumen 11-16-2006, 07:25 PM I don't know if Lasse Gjertsen was the guy or the name of the song or what, but that was so freaking cool it was insane. I had to do something like that as a project in video production class, and all you need is like 10 short clips/samples, and you're done. But that was some remarkable editing, too.
joshisposer 11-16-2006, 08:25 PM good luck getting a PS3. only 400,000 shipped to the US. that's not a lot. I want the PS3 so bad. i don't like the Wii at all. I find it stupid. Well sort of. My nickname for the Wii though is Wiitahted. idk, GO PS3! yay
Frankoman 11-16-2006, 08:28 PM Ello...

Sony was unable to reach their predicted quota. Try more like, 200,000 - 300,000 on launch day. Some stores do not evan have enough PS3's to fulfill their pre-orders.
treefalse 11-17-2006, 01:30 AM One store had 20 PS3's, and 40 people waiting in line...
TheElectricMonk 11-17-2006, 03:31 AM this is totally off-subject, but im watching Al jazeera, which i thought was some radicalist propaganda news network, but they claim to be radically independent, this could end up being a "fox news" scenerio, but i wouldnt be suprised if they actually are just independent, heres a random clip if youre interested http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pv8jKWCzCzw
and as for the update... i havent even watched any of it yet, but theres a good chance ive already seen tthe wii videos, cant friggin wait to get one, but itll prob be a month or so before i do (aka xmas)

that's really dumb, there are barely going to be any lines for the Wii, because Nintendo isn't retarded, and they will actually have enough systems. i saw a video of people doing this with an xbox 360 at launch, it's just so retarded, waiting in line for hours and spending hundreds of dollars (although the Wii is only 250 bucks) just to smash it. people need to find better things to do with their time.
and as for the PS3 being better than the Wii, lol, what are you on? the Wii costs less than half the price and actually has good launch games, and is more than just a newer version, the Wiimote is some amazing ingenuity, and all the other consoles should strive to be as inventive as Nintendo.

agreed, i watched the "smashmy360" thing, it was kinda funny, but the main reason they do it is money, they get all the money from donations, and im certain they dont post all the donations in their little tally bar, but its great seeing the looks on the fanboys faces and hearing them say things like "can i have your controllers?"
NOWAK 11-17-2006, 01:05 PM They just smashed the ps3, http://www.smashmyps3.com/

I finally managed to get a Wii ordered yesterday, and I can tell you first hand it wasn't easy at all. Between John and I we spent 7 hours combined trying to order one for me at bestbuy.ca. They only got 20 in for online ordering every hour and they would be gone within a minute, so we had to be really really quick about it. Started trying at 11am, John finally managed to get one for me by 6pm. John apparently has some superhuman gift that allows him to have a PS3 in his house and 3 Wii systems ordered online simultaneously while I can't even get one :P lol. Hence why I enlisted his ordering skills.
Stores were packed with people here in Ottawa. If I had gone and waited in line I probably would have ended up completely wasting my time as 1 out of like 3 or 4 people who were waiting didn't even get one.
The Wii is going to blow the PS3 away. Why? Better graphics? No. Faster processor? No. It's because Nintendo quite simply puts out the best games, and now that they have Ubisoft collaborating with them, they are going to be even better. The system costs $280 + tax (CAN) instead of $800+. If I wanted to spend that kind of money I could put a fairly decent gaming computer together. The control scheme is revolutionary and is going to make first person shooter type games absolutely kick ass (go to youtube and search for some demo videos of Red Steel, Far Cry: Vengeance, oh and Call of Duty 3 on the Wii). You'll also be able to play nintendo, SNES, N64, and gamecube games on the Wii just by downloading them on line. The pricing for games from older systems is a little steep right now but it should go down later on. The one downside that I can see to the Wii right now is that it doesn't play dvds, but seeing as I have a perfectly good dvd player sitting in my basement, I don't really care at all.
I finally managed to snag Zelda: Twilight Princess this morning from a Zellers in the mall nearby. It was the last copy in the whole store, they were sold out at every other place that I went. The system is still being shipped and should arrive tomorrow if all goes well. The only thing I havn't been able to get is an extra controller, everywhere I go they have no extra controllers, all sold out. I'm going to go to EB Games first thing tomorrow morning to see if they have any controllers in by then.
Czerwik 11-20-2006, 01:40 PM Just so you know, the PS3 font IS the spiderman font. I read it somewhere on the European PS3 site.
Got my Wii... It's updating right now, taking a while since the nintendo servers are being heavily hit by people updating for the first time... but it's going reasonably quick. The interface on the wii is incredible. The wireless configuration is extremely simple, I had it up and running in seconds. Typing by simply moving your hand and pressing one button really speeds things up. I'm going to play a few games after it's done updating and then I'll post some more about it.
Update:
Just finished messing around with my Wii. I played the sports games that come with the system, I also played red steel. I was extremely impressed with red steel. To open a door, knock over a table, or reload your gun you make a motion with the nunchuck controller and it performs the action. Also, to throw a grenade you hold down a button to take the grenade out, you then make a overhand or underhand throwing motion with the nunchuck and it throws the grenade. An underhand motion makes you roll the grenade causing it to not travel as far (good to do if someone is chasing you).
The sports games had very cartoonish graphics, but very cool control schemes. I actually worked up a sweat playing the boxing game because you actually have to box using the controllers. You hold them up to your face to block and you make punching motions to perform a range of different punches.
I'm waiting for my friends to come over before I play zelda, because I know they are going to want to play it, and I don't want to spoil the story by playing ahead. As I said before, the graphics are nothing spectacular when compared to the Xbox360 and the PS3, but the controls are incredible and really make you feel like you're in the game.
The Wii's interface is easy to use, you simply use the remote to move a pointer around the screen. The ability to turn the Wii on and off with the remotes is also pretty cool. Last but not least, the size of the console is nice. It is incredibly small (the size of about 3 dvd cases stacked on on top of the other) yet it is jam packed with features (support for older controllers, such as gamecube controllers, support for SD cards, a virtual console to play NES, SNES, N64, Sega, and Gamecube games all on the console (games must be purchased). It also has support for additional software (which is currently being developped by Nintendo), such as a web browser which they are going to release quite soon. They must be paid for, but I doubt the price for it will be very high.
All and all, the system is extremely impressive for the price and I would recommend it to anyone.
cool dude 11-21-2006, 09:58 PM how do you say it? we or w- i -i

Just so you know, the PS3 font IS the spiderman font. I read it somewhere on the European PS3 site.
Sony owns Paramount, which owns rights to that font, as they were the production company of Spiderman, and Spiderman 2.
Therefore, using the reflexive property, you'll see that Sony owns the font.
In other news:
I <3 my Wii. Twilight Princess is great.
But I'm still sad that I won't see Banjo or Jet Force on the VC. ;__;
Igsey 12-02-2006, 11:33 AM Those of you that think the PS3 is better than the Wii, your crazy. What's so special about the PS3? It's go better graphics. That's it. Now, the Wii... It's just such an amazing idea! It's a games console, but keeps people active, it can be done a a social activity, it has THE best game in the world on it - Twilight Princess, and in England, it's £179.99 with Wii Sports, whereas the PS3 will be around £550 (When it eventually comes out). Plus, you can play the old Gamecube games on it. The Wii wins hands down.

No to look like a fanboy, but you can play PS2 games on your PS3 also.
I think everyone's forgetting that the 360 has sold around 5 times more than the Wii and PS3 combined.
viper.gtsr 12-02-2006, 12:04 PM Never knew that.

Judging from the inovative new consoles that have come out, the PS3 being a graphics power house and the wii having the coolest control scheme ever to be seen on a console, I think we can expect xbox 360 sales to drop considerably, and I believe we will see one of these 2 new consoles take off like a rocket. I personally think the wii will win. Pretty graphics are nice, but they aren't everything. The wii's graphics are good enough not to make your eyes sore (twilight princess looks fantastic). When I'm playing a game, I personally like the feeling that you are in the game (swinging a sword, turning a steering wheel, throwing a grenade, or aiming and firing with extreme precision. I personally think the wii will take it for 3 reasons. 1. The control scheme is absolutely brilliant, the controllers are extremely versatile and well designed. 2. The wii costs about half of what a premium Xbox costs, and it costs about one third of what a PS3 costs. 3. It's compact: I've helpded friends lug around their xbox 360, though smaller than a pc it's still a bit of a chore to carry. The PS3 looks like it's going to be worse, it's an absolute beast. The Wii is small, I can fit the Wii along with every single accessory that it came with (plus all the games and accessories that I have bought afterwards) in to the original box that it came in. The box is so small that it neatly fits in to my standard sized backpack. Time will tell...
