Here is a Canadian's Viewpoint.
Gas Prices are higher here too. And it's Bush's Fault. Its true. He controls the major oil source. Thus if he didn't want to rip us off... Well he wouldn't. President Bush does not, nor has any other US President, ever had a hand in setting gas prices in the open market. The function of the President of the United States is not to determine commercial pricing. Moreover, no President directly effects global economies or even possess the remote inclination to skew macro economics. President Bush cannot 'wave his hand' and set gas prices, it would be in violation of several Articles and Ammendments of the US Constitution, not to mention in direct conflict with the distribution of power.

First of all, let me state for the record that I am not a Democrat, nor am I a Republican...I hate the corruption in government, however I am not a communist. Bush really has nothing to offer the American people, or the rest of the world, for that matter. If Iraq wanted to be free from oppression, they would rise up themselves. Personally, I think Bush just wanted to avenge his daddy, if he really was out for anything besides stirring up a heap of controversy, he should have invaded Saudi Arabia. But he won't do that, since even though almost all of the terrorists involved in 9/11 came from there, they sell us oil, so they are our de facto buddies. And HEY, guess what? The whole WMD thing? Based on false info by everyone in the U.S. government, although Bush did listen to those half-truths and (possibly) a few fact-fudgings. Oh yeah, about the oil thing, including the wage rises since the 60's and inflation, we are actually paying less for gas than we were in the past. But it is an inconvenience, and it is Bush's business partners in OPEC's fault that the prices are as high as they are. See, kiddies, OPEC (Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries) has precedence over the oil that is distributed around the world. It is made up of big business national oil companies that like to see the prices per barrel rise for their countries' (and their own) benefit. Bush, being the big business-minded Conservative that he is, would like the idea of raising the prices to help out the oil companies, which, in essence, gives more money to his filthy rich friends. You see, he really has no influence, but would do the same exact thing if given the chance. And privatizing social security: if it gets through Congress and the Senate, I won't be surprised (Republican majority), but in the future there will be retired people dying because they don't have the money to support themselves because of the drug prices, the hospital bills, maybe their spouse's funeral payments, what have you. Plain and simple: many people won't have the money to live, and it won't be their fault: it will all boil down to the "lets have a good economy now and f**k the consequences" uber-conservatives and their leader, President George W. Bush.

P.S.-High taxes are the government's way of saying "We make plenty of money, but we don't want you to have it."

Bush asking Saudi Arabia to lower gas prices is like asking your best friend to literally stab themselves in the face with a soldering iron[/Joe Dirt reference] and they don't do it. Did you know that car companies are already using hydrogen fuel cell cars in cities to test the costs and drawbacks, as well as the benefits, of using hydrogen? Did you also know that there are already hydrogen refueling stations being built, preparing for the release of hydrogen cars. It won't be for 10 or 15 years that there is a widespread release of these cars, but it will happen sooner than 30-40 years from now. And no, they do not use any gasoline, they harness the power of the hydrogen atom to make energy, and the exhaust combines with oxygen to form relatively clean water, which if filtered and captured, could be used as drinking water and the like. Plus, hydrogen technology is expanding at an ungodly rate, so the cars will only cost about $2,000 over a normal gas-fueled car.
