View Full Version : will sony die
the last samurai 08-05-2006, 12:39 PM ive heard that the new ps3 is costing around £750 to make and they are losing around £250 everytime they make it.
so at £1000 loss on the new console and it being around £425 to buy do you think they are gunna go bankrupt or do you think that they will make back the money by stopping ps2 games?
are there that many people wanting to buy the next gen ps?
i think they should die personally but what do you think
MrNaPaLm32 08-05-2006, 01:03 PM In case you didnt notice...Sony has many more assets than just their video game consoles.
And Sony could care less on how much they lose on consoles. Its the games where they make their money.
and Sony isnt the only one. Microsoft loses $126 for every XBox360 they sell.
Drunken_Shinobi 08-05-2006, 01:24 PM Sony isn't going to die because of the fact their next generation video game console didn't sell well enough.
the last samurai 08-05-2006, 01:24 PM sorry boss thats all i heard
didnt hasnt come out yet has it?
If they were smart they would put the HDMI port in the $500 dollar version and ditch the $600 version altogether.
Liquid_Snake 08-06-2006, 07:00 PM Those prices are way too much. I guess they wan't to kill the game console that started every game that sony has made.
Heyyou27 08-06-2006, 07:03 PM If they were smart they would put the HDMI port in the $500 dollar version and ditch the $600 version altogether.Who wants to pay $500 for a "next generation" console that doesn't even support HDMI?

I think that they should ditch the blu-ray player too, even if it does become the new format, we won't completely switch over for a long time, They should have just left that that out, put in the HDMI port, and made the console $450 at most, like a high end Xbox 360 basically.
Drunken_Shinobi 08-07-2006, 12:03 AM The 360 wasn't so great either.
The 360 wasn't so great either.
But the PS3 could be if it still kept most of what it was and dropped some of the extra features, the thing that kept the PS2 going was because it has games that were for kids and adults, and a huge selection of them.
Drunken_Shinobi 08-07-2006, 12:08 AM Well it's the company's choice to screw themselves in the third generation video game industry. In the end, Wii might just win.
Doubtful, the gamecube didn't exactly win or lose, I'm not saying it isn't good, but the majority of gamers want something more than nintendo games.

It's a little proverb called "Don't put all your eggs in one basket".
guess_who_i_am 08-07-2006, 03:10 AM Experts say the PSP will crash by the end of the year, I say that sony has shotty gooods in general, so I hope they go bankrupt.

Even I admit the GC sucked but the Wii will help them bounce back plus they have most of the handheld market, most of the Arcade market, all of the japanese market and most of the asian market in general.
Note that Nintendo ONLY focus on games.
the last samurai 08-07-2006, 10:47 AM The 360 wasn't so great either.
i have to agree with that... bit disappointing
Even I admit the GC sucked
gasp....i cant even believe you said that....though you cant get better than the N64..i mean best controller ever and some of the best games like goldeneye (great for when your drunk) or OOT.

Its biggest flaws were lack of 3rd party support and Nintendo's refusal to go online. Also on the technical side, the Gamecube’s GPU “Flipper” was a Direct X8.1 part while the Xbox’s GPU was still Direct X8.0 based.
MrNaPaLm32 08-07-2006, 01:48 PM Who wants to pay $500 for a "next generation" console that doesn't even support HDMI?someone who doesnt have and HDTV. Because If you dont it doesnt even matter.
Heyyou27 08-07-2006, 02:10 PM someone who doesnt have and HDTV. Because If you dont it doesnt even matter.
So, I could get an Xbox360 for $300 with outputs for my HDTV, or I could spend $500 and be stuck on a standard definition TV; if you're not using an HDTV, the Xbox360 and PS3 will offer little improvement over the older consoles.
The PSP will not "lose", in the USA and Japan combined it sold 7.6 million, which isn't that far away from the ds's 9 million, plus with games like MGS portable ops, Final Fantasy 7 crisis core, Ratchet and Clank Size Matters, Loco roco, the list goes on for late 2006/early 2007 games. The PSP is a close competitor with the DS.
Hellraiser 08-07-2006, 09:51 PM i dont like sony
nickychris3 08-07-2006, 10:55 PM Why?
brady 08-07-2006, 11:55 PM sony want die cause the games the making a killing on that and every time one goes plantem they make more money

You proberly already know that Nintendo is fixing both of them with getting the Wii online and they will be recieving a lot of support from Konami, Hudson (like always), Capcom, Sega and Square with the Wii all of whom have titles planned for the system and I suppose Camelot is 3rd party now too (bye bye Golden Sun :() so support from them is assumed. The Gamecube did have a lot of support from Sega and Hudson on the gamecube and abit from other mainstream companys but they refused to work with companys like Rockstar because they wanted to be the safe console (something they are no longer worrying about with the Wii)
Why?
Proberly because of the fact that all their consoles and games are exactly the same.
Note that Nintendo ONLY focus on games.
Actually they also make anime (pokemon), Trading Cards, Plush Toys, Arcade and Handhelds and the such they will never go bankrupt because in Japan the DS has beaten out the 360 in sales.
Arcades and Handhelds are technically games anyway. Pokemon's one thing and no one likes it anymore. As for trading cards, Pokemon cards were big but that was about 7 years ago.
guess_who_i_am 08-08-2006, 05:40 AM In Japan and asia they are still huge.
But not anywhere else. They're not that big in China.
MrNaPaLm32 08-08-2006, 02:41 PM In Japan and asia they are still huge.just japan and korea actually.
Liquid_Snake 08-08-2006, 07:17 PM N64..i mean best controller ever and some of the best games like goldeneye (great for when your drunk) or OOT.
That's cuz N64 had some of it's OWN games. All (Or most if I am wrong) are just port's from PS2 hardware. Maybe Nintendo should focus on making better "Our console only" games for a bit. RE4 would have ressurected GC but it got ported to PS2 after a while.
P.S. I disclude Pokemon becuase it sucks. No one should care about it.
