I might be getting a new laptop. I am wondering if there are any good ones with a reasonable price range, ($0.00-$600.00) that can play Halo, has xp, and just.. Well.. Isn't crap. I was thinking maybe a mac, but I don't know what would be best for my needs. If you are saying "You want a mac, and Xp? Na..." If I get mac, i don't need xp.

notice how he said 0 dollars to 600 dollars, so he can't get it unless it's an awesome deal, or it's an old used one

If you really want a bargain you can use Craig's List.

Nothing under $600 that doesn't have onboard graphics. Not saying a deal won't come up, but if he wants it for playing Halo as well as normal tasks, he's going to need something other than GMA900 graphics.

Halo will not play on integrated. I've tried it.

I've never played the PC version of Halo but seeing as it's DirectX8, it should be able to run on integrated at some low quality level.

On older integrated I'm almost positive it won't work because of the need for Transform and Lighting capability, but on an Intel GMA 950, it might. It has a decent GPU, and it might be able to handle the workload from the CPU. I'm not sure if integrated has the capability to transfer work like this, though. Integrated technology is still pretty far behind the rest of the graphics world.

One thing, the game was tested with a Pentium 4 at 3.4GHz, and most if not all of the CPUs on these $600 laptops are Celeron Ms. Most of the benchmarks I've seen of it show it performing very well for a Celeron CPU; from what I've seen it's basically a Pentium M with some of the L2 cache disabled. http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/chipsets/display/i915g_9.html

A Celeron IS just a Pentium with a sizeable chunk of L2 cache disabled, and (if I'm not mistaken) a lower clocked FSB.

Yes, but in this case the FSB and clockspeed aren't really lower, it's simply L2 cache disabled. The Celeron M and Celeron D are very different chips, the Celeron M being based off the Dothan core and the Celeron D being based off the Prescott.
