The website and the domain name are two separate things. You have to get the .net or .com web address from a domain service, and the actual webspace from a web hosting service.

gussa obviously doesn't have the technical knowhow to run his own server, so that is out of the question.

If you want a free one, you'll have to use something like freeweb, geocities, or google. If you want a site with your own name, you will have to pay for it, or use one of the free redirector services which usually put their own advertising in your pages.

Domain names are things you can attach to a web hosting plan, for example: "www.gussasdomainname.com", you would have to pay around $7.95 to buy that name from somewhere like www.omnis.com. Then you would need to buy a hosting plan from somewhere like www.bigbluehost.com, and then you would have to pay a minimum of $9.00 a month to get a plan with them. Then you have to setup the nameservers for that domain name to attach to that webhosting plan, like ns1.bluehost.com and ns2.bluehost.com. You will then be able to setup your website. But one thing, nothing is free (except freewebs and maybe bravenet or geocites). If you need help, feel free to just PM me.

Edit: I am not spamming or advertising, I just thought of those places out of my mind, because i've used them before.

I've found that each of the web services are good for different things. Freewebs happens to have the best editor. Freewebtown I think is the best for experienced users because it gives you more room and It has FTP, and a multiple file uploader.

Yeah domains cost about $8 a year, and then you have to find a place to host them. But... everyone already mentioned that...

Probably, because they dont want people taking off their advertisments for google on their pages.

To have one without an address like www.freewebs.com/<insertsitename> you have to pay for hosting and stuff like that, but if you're willing to have an address with the hosting in it then it's usually free.

What about... .tk websites? They let you choose your own domain, apparently. *shrug*

Axel

Yeah, but he's asking for a .net site. If you have a .tk website, people know you got it from .tk.

I know i know, just opposing your line: "To have one without an address like www.freewebs.com/<insertsitename> you have to pay for hosting and stuff like that".

.tk is only a redirector, so you'd have to have a page at freewebs or somewhere first anyway

Well if you check out my signature below this post, i don't pay for that website's "domain" name and if you type live and load in google my name will likely come up on the first 2 pages.

Theres some advertising but they let you choose the level of advertisement which can't be a bad thing.

Theres some advertising but they let you choose the level of advertisement which can't be a bad thing.Uh, No. .co.nr only requires you to put a small box advertising the .co.nr domain. And even still, they dont have a bot that checks, so you dont have to put it on your site.

Yes they do, I accidentilly left it out once and my domain got shut down, so I had to contact them and get it set back up.

And where can I find google hosting?
