The song is not called "Man on Man" even though that is the English meaning. Take note that the band sings in German most of the time.

I have a ton of their songs and their last two albums (I will get more but i'm lazy like MrNapalm). Mann Gegen Mann was just a total randomness outbreak, the band was just messing about (or as Till puts it "We just push boundaries. We can't help it if people don't like those boundaries being pushed"). That song is partly an attack on the homophobia of many Germans, and is said to have been inspired by Till losing a bet and having to take some gay friends round some gay bars. Rammstein is definitely NOT gay, but they like the controversy (controversy = publicity and popularity), and they are pretty uninhibited. They have definitely all been married by the way apart from Flake and Christoph for whom no info is available.

No sh!t. I was merely translating the song.
And yeah, that's wierd, considering they're name is German.

bigwhiteyeti

It literally means "man against man", but the band likes their puns as much as their pyro, and they knew that in English it could be translated as "man on man", reflecting on it's theme. Check out the lyrics translations on http://herzeleid.com/en/lyrics/rosenrot/mann_gegen_mann.

East German electronic-industrial-metal-rock band formed in 1994, (they identify themselves as being East German). They have had a worldwide success, and hold the title of being the most successful German band of all time. For more info on them check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rammstein.
The band's official websites are: http://www.rammstein.com/News/ (English site)
and http://www.rammstein.de/_Rosenrot/News/ (German site).

If you think that's weird, watch the video for "Mein Teil". Mein Teil is a song inspired by the Armin Meiwes cannibalism case in Germany in March 2001. In case you don't know, this was basically an incident in which Meiwes ate another guy (apparently consentually). He got life.

Anyway, the band saw a newspaper article on it while at rehersal and they thought "Wow, this is sick and yet so fascinating. We gotta write a song about it!" And they did. It won the prize for "Best Metal Performance" in the 48th Grammy Awards.

They're not allowed to play in the U.S. because they have too much fire in their shows. Stupid people who restrict stuff...stupid.

Axel
05-30-2006, 03:21 AM
So how do you guys know of them?

bigwhiteyeti
05-30-2006, 03:27 PM
Well I don't live in the USA for a start, but I was actually introduced to them by an end of year prank done by someone in my German class. For the last lesson of the year our teacher said we could bring in some German music to listen to in class, and my freind got hold of a Rammstein CD.

What followed was extremely funny, with the look on our teacher's face slowly turning from blissful happiness to disgust as German heavy metal started to boom into the class. She refused to translate anything beyond the second line of the first verse, and quickly switched off the music as everyone burst out laughing.

The kid who brought in the music actually hates Rammstein's guts out, and he can't even pronounce their name properly.

bigwhiteyeti
05-31-2006, 10:51 AM
Well he is wrong. Do you have Limewire or something similar? If you do then download a few of their songs and see what you think. If you don't, then head on down to http://www.limewire.com/english/content/home.shtml. I highly reccomend this program, but it isn't nearly as good as the old WinMX which is unavailable now. I think I'm obliged to tell you that you must delete the songs within 24 hours to avoid copyright infringement. I think. (This is just for all you RIAA people who are reading this, ok? So you can't say I didn't warn them.)
