Well i was thinking while im in japan town this break i should pick up some cool japanese ps2 games that werent released in the us. But then i thought would they work in my american ps2? So my questions are:
Can i play japanese games on a American PS2?
If not is there a way without modifying the hardware?

I would be more than happy to chat about this topic but i would rather talk about these subjects in the game threads which the moderators set up for a reason.

If you have an import version of the PS2, for example if you are in USA and you have bought a Japanese PS2, then you will encounter several compatibility problems. In fact, every console is produced to work just in a precise area of the world. In other words, a Japanese PS2 will work only with Japanese DVD movies and Japanese games; an American PS2 will play only american DVDs and American games. Anyhow, there are several mod chips available which make your PS2 able to play games and movies coming from every part of the world. Use of modchips to play games imported from other countries is not illegal.
VooDoo, this forum works for asking technical questions about games as well as the games forum, methinks.

If not is there a way without modifying the hardware? There are two options, the Action Replay or a Mod chip; go for the Action Replay.

I'm pretty much sure what this ask an expert forum subject is for, considering it was me who originally set up this thread on the old forums.

Hey man, he asked for an expert's opinion on PS2 hardware/software, ya? Does that not count? *Retains light insults*

I still say the Action Replay is his best option. http://www.codejunkies.com/

action replay? never heard of it. I heard of a way to do it with gameshark, and you follow the same procedure to play copied/burned games.

Makers of Action Replay bought Gameshark; so it's pretty much the same thing, different name.
