Ok, well I'm startin to browse for some good computer parts for my first self built computer. Yeah, yeah I know I can use google but o well, I'm askin you guys. I'm figurin we got some "pros" here. I'm lookin for some good deals. I'm on a sorta tight budget (dont ask how much, just not that much, $1,000 would be a lot for me). I was usin this edazz site, but the stupid thing is shut down or somthin. I was plannin on usin like the Radeon X800 in it. Anybody got (or had) that? If so, how does it perform? I'm not needin top of the line, just somthin a little over decent.

X800 is outdated; you can get an X850XT for around $170.

Yeah...170 dollars is pretty reasonable on a 1000 dollar budget on a new computer and you can play games well with it.

Building a very good PC under 1000$ is going to be tough. When I first built mine at 16 I used http://www.pricewatch.com/ . It is a excellent website for finding the best prices on exactly what you want.

Oh yeah and if you're on a budget then get 512 MB of RAM or something, but if you want you can get 1 GB but make sure it isn't a cheap piece of crap.

If you want Windows Vista, get 1 GB of RAM,or 2 GB if you have a 64-bit processor.

Drunken_Shinobi
03-30-2006, 07:36 PM
Hmm...well the Windows Vista would be fun to have for Direct X10.

Not to mention the 256MB graphics card, and the 64 bit processor, unless you want it to be deathly slow.

There are currently no Direct X10 cards out, and a card that isn't even Shader Model 3.0 compliant will be even worse.

Then...we wait!

Heyyou27
03-30-2006, 08:39 PM
And the first Direct X10 card will be the G80; price tag will probably be around 600$.

Drunken_Shinobi

Well then...Clash, you'd better stick to just getting a Windows XP for now.

Can you even buy windows 2000 anymore? Currently they don't offer a student discount for it here as it hasnt been in stock in years.

2000 is like quite an old system if you compare it to others. Only buisnesses use it because it's an OS that doesn't cost much and it works for them. Other than that, if you want a casual computer Windows 2k won't work.

He really should get the 256MB X1800 XT.

Well that would be about half his budget but getting anything else is fine. I mean as long as it lets you play the games you want to play then it's fine.

What you do is,you take all the DLL files from Windows XP's System and/or system32 folder. You burn them all onto a disk, and place the files in the Windows 2000 folder of the same name.

You could at least look things up before you post like that; a 256MB X1800XT is less than 300$ on newegg.

Why don't you get that $165 PC,and upgrade the RAM and graphics card?

Better just to build on your own. Usually building on your own gets you better results.

Yeah, if I wanted to get an already made computer, I would. I'm building it on my own cuz I want to and, god this sounds really corny but, it would be a "learning experience." Might as well learn how to maintain your own computer instead of havin to call tech support people every time your computer is actin stupid.
