what's the cheapest i could get 512mb of memory, despite the brand.

You can get a stick of PC3200 on newegg.com for around 40$.

Kingston and Corsair are both good brands; I'd say go for the Corsair because it has lower latencies.

No, that's what you'd pay if you wanted a quality DDR2 stick of 512. Corsair is voted the most reliable, and that's what that is.

That's how much I paid for my 1 GB or RAM and it's pretty good.

Unless it's a LGA775 based system. (Most Intel systems in the last year)i have an intel system that was built this year. It was still running DDR. I do bellieve DDR2 is backwards compatible. so you could have an LGA775 system with DDR could you not?

No you can not; DDR2 is 240 pin, DDR1 is 184.

Well it certainly wasn't on any credible website. :)now i know what it was saying. PC3200 is compatible with PC4200 and so-on, i recall it saying something about DDR2 to DDR. anyways...
