View Full Version : Archery.
Charles rules you all! 01-28-2006, 05:32 PM I like archery but the other thread got closed. Well anyway just talk about archery here.
Right here is the new bow I just got.

uber_jedi 01-28-2006, 11:19 PM You will need to upgrade. Get:
1. a target sight (4X is good)
2. a stabilizer bar
3. a peep sight
4. a trigger or tension release (the latter is better but harder to learn to use)
5. stronger arms
What draw weight is your bow at now?
Charles rules you all! 01-29-2006, 11:02 AM Right now the Draw weight is like nothing to me but I think it is about 18-20 pounds, I already have a stablizer bar you just cant see it in the picture because it is on the other side.
And I dont have any more money to buy anything else because I used it all on the bow. and I really dont care to have a scope for a bow, using your eyes is just fine.
uber_jedi 01-29-2006, 12:48 PM You are 14 and can only pull back 20 pounds!!! WTF!?! Mine is at 45, but I haven't bought a new one in 3 years beacause of the lack of money.I can pull back my friend's bow which is at 70 pounds with a 55% let-off.
Where do you practice at? I can help you with your form if you take video clips from the side. (remember to compress them!)
What kind of arrows do you use? (carbon, alluminum, platinum...)
What does your arrow rest look like? (another picture please)
Charles rules you all! 01-29-2006, 09:15 PM Well Like I said the Draw weight is like nothing, I can pull back with a lot greater force than that.
And I just got it so I only have one arrow I think it's a wood one, not really sure.
And I'll post my picture once I take it in a moment.
Here is a bunch of photos to help you see it.

viper.gtsr 01-29-2006, 09:34 PM Is the red part metal or plastic.
uber_jedi 01-29-2006, 09:48 PM I think it is metal...a couple of people at my club have bows like it.
You really need a sight. Don't use an included one that has a single pin held up by plastic..those are terrible. Neighbors' dogs can make fun targets.
viper.gtsr 01-29-2006, 09:51 PM Neighbors cats are more challenging, and more rewording too.
Ryu-Nacho 01-29-2006, 10:02 PM I need to go get me a bow now, so I can talk Archery talk with you guys. :P
Any idea what one might cost, and where to get one? I'm thinking that a draw weight of 75-100 lbs would probably do.
Charles rules you all! 01-30-2006, 08:03 AM (Ryu)Something like that would cost you about $400. Mine I just got for $158.69.
The red part is composite material, no clue on what really is but it's not metal.
And its not like I'm going to be an expert in a few days, I still have plenty of time before I should have to be buying the things you recemended.

Rofl, That might be good if you want a cross-bow but a normal compound bow is what you should get. They are easier than recurve...don't even think about getting a longbow. Ryu-Nacho, you are 18 and male, so I am guessing that you should start with a 55-70 pound bow with at least 65% let-off. This bow alone could cost you $250 if you find a good store. Or buy one used. Mine was used and I got everything included. Even 3 carbon arrows.
Charles rules you all!, where are you going to practice at?
Charles rules you all! 01-30-2006, 04:21 PM girlfriends house.....and if my mom lets me, the giant lot that is going to be used for housing in the next few monthes. Possibly if I can find a good area near the bike path that I would be able to use.
Ryu-Nacho 01-30-2006, 06:49 PM I won't be an expert in a few days either...because it'll be at least a week before I can even go looking for bows. >_<
And $400 for what I was thinking? Shoot, I'll just get some wimpy bow, and call it good. :P
Naaaah...if I'm gonna actually try Archery, I should get an appropriate bow. I'll talk with people at some local hunting store, screw around with bows there, and see what I should get then. I'll keep these suggestions in mind though.

Lucky you...a girlfriend and she lets you shoot on her property! Jealous I have become. You could try sniping some bikers on the path too.

Remember, used bow are just as good (the ones that I have seen) as the new expensive ones.
Send me a PM with some info about where you live and I can find a club or good place for you to go to.
If you or Charles rules you all! want a good sight, I could obtain one (somehow...[hehehe]) and mail it to you. Also, I could mail a great trigger release and maybe even an arrow rest. (If you ask nicely) I need to know soon, so PMs work well.
Charles rules you all! 01-30-2006, 09:38 PM Thanks for the offer but, that is way too much to ask for and I'm plain out of money. So far I am just shooting nothing out in my back yard, I need to aquire a target, whether it be cans or a paper target, whatever works.
what do you recomend for a target? (besides people, and little animals, my girlfriend will kill me if I hit a little animal)
uber_jedi 01-31-2006, 07:56 AM A good target: Cut up a cardboard box and lay about 7 to 8 sheets of it on top of eachother then tape it together and print off a target and tape that on.
The stuff I mentioned before would only cost shipping and $5 for effort.
Charles rules you all! 01-31-2006, 08:11 AM yeah and I have $4 (in change) so I still cant afford anything until my birthday. (march 29)
uber_jedi 01-31-2006, 02:30 PM Steal $10 from your neighbors and/or friends do that you will have enough. I am not joking about mailing you or Ryu-Nacho the equipment.
Ryu-Nacho 01-31-2006, 06:21 PM Hmmmm...how risky is the mailing procedure? And how would you prefer payment.
*Note: Only answer question 1 if the sight offer is technically illegal. And probably in a PM.*
Charles rules you all! 02-01-2006, 05:01 PM It has only been 3 days with my bow and already my arrow is destroied to the extent of which it's hardly useable. But I did have fun shooting out in my back yard, I hit my target(a soda can) 7 out of the 100 shots I took at it, when I say I shot it I mean puncturing it, not just hitting it.
Ryu-Nacho 02-01-2006, 05:31 PM 7 out of 100...it's progress!
Charles rules you all! 02-01-2006, 06:56 PM If you count the times I acually hit it, it would be 13 out of 100, but I dont count those. And it's hard when you cant shoot up, otherwise I would hit my neighbors house.:( O'well all is fun(until my arrow breaks)
uber_jedi 02-01-2006, 08:04 PM You both should now have PMs in your inbox.
Charles rules you all! 02-23-2006, 05:02 PM My arrow broke about a week or two ago, but I forgot to post that it happened, so I'm here on a perfect day to go shooting and I cant shoot at anything:(
Ryu-Nacho 02-23-2006, 05:31 PM I haven't had the opportunity to go by a bow yet. Several reasons. Probably won't for a while still, because I've finally got a start on a mini-web design business kinda thing.
*Does the pwnge dance.*
Charles rules you all! 02-27-2006, 06:43 PM I've been pissed off, It's been great weather and I can cant shoot because I dont have any arrows!
terrelbot 02-28-2006, 09:22 AM The last time I got to fire a bow and arrow in my girlfriends place she got kicked out of the apartment complex...
Now that was a fun day.
uber_jedi 02-28-2006, 02:15 PM Is it just that you need money for one? I suggest gambling. (or liberating from evil people)
Charles rules you all! 03-14-2006, 06:04 AM Let this Thread LIVE!!!!! Well anyway I should be getting back to shooting in less than 2 weeks because I have been working for about a week now and I should get my check soon. Hopefully more than $100.......
