View Full Version : Is there really silence? Nelly Vexed 01-15-2006, 05:14 AM Do you think silence is really silence? Or is it just a sound we got used to and don't really notice anymore....Hmmm...what do you guys think?!?! Ryu-Nacho 01-15-2006, 12:12 PM Silence is silence. If there is any noise, then you can't call it silence. I'd say that if it's a noise that you're used to, it'd be "Peace and quiet". Legolas Mylegolas 01-15-2006, 12:14 PM That is a seriously deep question. I'd Ask Jeeves. viper.gtsr 01-15-2006, 08:22 PM No silence is just when we don't hear things, but that does not mean there is no sound. uber_jedi 01-15-2006, 08:32 PM There is silence. You have been answered by the Grprime Guru: uber_jedi. Be gone with you! Legolas Mylegolas 01-15-2006, 08:33 PM Have at you! viper.gtsr 01-15-2006, 08:33 PM There is silence. Oh, sorry. http://gprime.net/board/images/icons/icon11.gif Boong 01-15-2006, 09:17 PM bored viper.gtsr 01-15-2006, 09:30 PM You don't have to say board on every thread you go! murderbydeath 01-16-2006, 02:32 AM why dont we ask a deaf person. magila 01-16-2006, 02:36 AM sadly we can't :( MrNaPaLm32 01-16-2006, 02:43 AM it depends on the was you define it, if you're talking about the threshhold of human hearing, then yes, there is silence. however, if you are talking about sound in general. there is no true "silence" sound waves are everywhere. no matter how weak. If the earth and our entire solar system were gone. sound waves would still come from stars outside the solar system. even though you cant hear them, because there is no air in space. TrUsTy{~}SoCkS 01-16-2006, 03:21 AM That is a seriously deep question. I'd Ask Jeeves. ^^^ lol The Doctor 01-16-2006, 03:36 AM I'm partially deaf in my left ear. The only place that silence exists in in a vacuum where sound cannot travel. eg. space MrNaPaLm32 01-16-2006, 03:55 AM I'm partially deaf in my left ear. The only place that silence exists in in a vacuum where sound cannot travel. eg. space not true. the human ear cannot percieve sound waves in space. this is a common misconception. sounds DO exist in space. The Doctor 01-16-2006, 08:20 AM They exist, but the sound cannot travel in a vacuum as there are no particles for the sound to make vibrate. It is these vibrations that are sound waves. Without the waves, there is sound which cannot travel. Drunken_Shinobi 01-16-2006, 11:06 AM They exist, but the sound cannot travel in a vacuum as there are no particles for the sound to make vibrate. It is these vibrations that are sound waves. Without the waves, there is sound which cannot travel. In other words...you can say, "In space...noone can hear you scream." MrNaPaLm32 01-16-2006, 12:48 PM They exist, but the sound cannot travel in a vacuum as there are no particles for the sound to make vibrate. It is these vibrations that are sound waves. Without the waves, there is sound which cannot travel. but they can still exist. who cares about traveling. uber_jedi 01-16-2006, 01:40 PM "The Doctor" should leave! The Doctor 01-17-2006, 03:39 AM If the sound wave can't travel, noone can hear it so yes. noone can hear you scream, unless you have a radio in the space suit. MrNaPaLm32 01-17-2006, 09:23 AM but if your spacesuit had no air, you couldn't hear it either. lolz uber_jedi 01-17-2006, 12:58 PM If the sound wave can't travel, noone can hear it so yes. noone can hear you scream, unless you have a radio in the space suit. Even though I actually like Intel, when I saw this I couldn't help but laugh. MrNaPaLm32 01-19-2006, 11:11 PM they do need some shine. even though they overclock better. their normal speed sucks. rehabisforquitters 01-19-2006, 11:42 PM It would be a bad Idea to overclock an Amd 2.1 processor, wouldn't it? |
