The AMD FX-60 is coming out now and it's said to be the last socket 939 chip. AMD is replacing 939 with their new "M2" socket.

That was an interesting article, wil you be upgrading soon?
If so, I would like to buy your used 4800+.

Sure, you can have it for 700$. Not really, anyways I'm keeping my socket 939. The only reason the new one is coming is for DDR2 support. I don't really care to have faster ram if the latency is going to be a lot higher. Not worth the upgrade.

"M2" doesnt really have many advantages at all, except for an extra 10 pins. and DDR2 support(said earlier). how much will it cost?

Ahh I don't know. Thanks for clearing up the 10 pin difference. Right now the FX-60 is 1400$ on newegg.com. And to think you could just buy my processor for 787$ and easily overclock it to 2.6GHz on air cooling. ;)

newegg doesnt have it yet...

nvm

it was dual core with toledo. thats why i didnt see it. I thot the FX series were all single core...

Yeah they were, but now they're making all of the FX series dual core. (The new ones)

And i thought the FX-57 was expensive. why couldnt they just make the FX-58? who will REALLY buy that. i mean. what kind of thing will you be doing that will require you to use that processor. my 3700+ will alread run everythign i need for BF2.

Psh that's not even it. Why buy it when the X2 4800+ is 787$? It overclocks the same, anandtech couldn't get it above 2.8GHz on air.

Edit: I just saw on another site saying that socket M2 is 940 pin, but that may be incorrect.

but socket 940 is already out. for those old computers.

No, socket 940 is currently Opteron only.

Plus they have a newer socket coming out later that's suppose to be 1207 pin.

i thot that was the M2. or is it intel. how on earth do they come up with these awkward pin numbers.

The 1207 pin is called "Socket F". It's the new Opteron server socket.

I plan to get a job at a computer store and steal this processor when no one is looking...

Too bad.

for them... my dad manages a shipping company that warehouses redbull. theres a black market going on now and people simply hotwire the trucks and drive away with them... so you could easily do so say... at newegg, a much smaller company...

But a few thousand cans of Red Bull aren't worth as much as a few thousand videocards. ;)

oh yes, delivery trucks are very easy to break in to... and most of the time the under dash isnt covered, you know, red + red = start. :)
