I'm getting the X2 4800+ soon, although the FX-57 is the fastest single core processor out.

The FX-57 is currently the fastest single core gaming processor out, and the X2 4800+ is the fastest dual core gaming processor out. (In most benchmarks)

right, well i want one to run F.E.A.R. and properly run CounterStrike:Source on

ill bet with this thing. you could run both at the same time. but the X2 4800+ would run better cuz its dual core.

With a small amount of overclocking I'll be able to make them the equivalent of dual FX-55s.

Ouch. My current PC is a 3.6GHz P4 HTT with 2GB of RAM, but my new one (Parts come tomorrow) is an AMD Athlon X2 4800+ with 2GB of RAM and dual evga 7800 GT COs. Much better than my single overclocked 6800 GT. :)

Your new setup is the same as my current, except I'm sporting dual ATI x1800s, Crossfire. :-[ EQ2 doesn't like nVidia cards much.

Ouch. I'm enjoying my new X2 4800+(Overclocked to 2.6GHz) with 2 GB of RAM and Dual 7800 GTs.

im 15 and i dont have a job. why do you like dual core? getting a fast single processor works fine. Dual processors suck for gaming.

Considering it's currently clocked at 2.6GHz and is the same as two FX-55s I don't think it "sucks for gaming". Yes I know that nearly all games out right now only use one thread but newer games will begin to use two. Another reason I decided on the X2 4800+ are the multitasking abilities and the price difference was too small not to get one.

the FX-55 was considered the best gaming processor of all time. Its overclockability is outstanding. you could OC it to 3.2ghz on stock cooling. most who upgraded their cooling and had high speed ram were able to get it to 3.6. of course, saying its "equvelant" to two FX-55's isnt really true. X2 has a completely diffrent processor structure. Dispite a game being dual channel compatible, its still the same math going in and out of it. its just splitting the work. a dual core processor the same speed as a single core processor will still yeild about the same performance levels.

First off, The FX-55 no longer the fastest gaming processor. It was beaten by the FX-57 and even the Pentium 4 670 in many benchmarks. Also you're not correct about the FX-55 being an extreme overclocker. Sure it overclocks well but, do you honestly expect two hardware cores on one chip to clock as high as a single core? Another thing you're incorrect about is the X2 4800+. It's essentially dual FX-53s. Being a slower version of the FX-55 at 2.4GHz instead of 2.6GHz. The FX-55 has a 1MB L2 Cache, and each processor on my X2 4800+ has 1MB of L2. So tell me then, if that's the case how is it a different "processor structure" when in reality they are very similar and the only real difference is the 200MHz increase on an FX-55.

I admit that an FX-55 would be better for games in general, but for the price difference it doesn’t hurt to buy an X2 series for it has more future potential.

first of all, did i say it "is". no, i said it is considered to be. the FX-55 is a helluv a lot different than the X2's. if you dont think so you need help.

Why do you need it? Do you do a lot of hardcore gaming? Or a hell of a lot of graphic design?

u dont GET the fx-57 unless ure a gamer. i still want one, even though i dont game a whole lot. I play call of duty every once in a while.

So if you only play COD every once in a while, then.....why do you need it? I mean yeah, it's orgasmic just thinking about having it, but unless you game A LOT then you really have no use for it.

MrNaPaLm32

you could use it to. its called running photoshop, flash, endorphin, firefox, and burning a DVD all at the same time, running faster than ever.

That's what I asked about earlier. I asked if you were trying to do graphic design and you said only for gaming and that you didn't game, so I assumed.

You caught me ;). Actually though they're the evga 7800 GTs with the copper heatsinks. They come clocked at 470MHz core and 1.1GHz memory.

i thot that that was the most STABLE overclock but whatever. i only look at the cheap ones anyway. I for one can't afford two yet alone one. Im pretty sure ill be getting a 6800. I think it plays every game on high settings. and once it gets old ill just buy another and make it top noch again.
