I have 2 iPods, soon to be 3 once I buy a nano. I love iPods and the tech support for them, the guy I got answered the phone and actually said the word "Narly". Made my day.

Not quite. The Dell design can't even tough the iPod design.

Then use a OSS alternative to itunes, that's how I 'sync' my iPod now, though it's not as natural as iTunes is....and you can still put .mp3 files on the iPod, not just .aac but you can shave off a good 30% filesize with aac.

I use a program called EphPod. works well.

I like my ipod. I need a freakin' cover for it though. There's this thing called Pod Shield, comes out Sept. 30. It's a really thin, second layer to the ipod. Looks pretty cool, I hate those huge covers

I use EphPod in *BSD and YamiPod in Linux...EphPod doesn't like kubuntu for some reason.

i pods ar over rated. the battery seems worse than the 1 on the psp.. but the nano is pretty sweet, but when i think about it i could buy a psp for that price and a 1gb card hmm ill go with the psp so i have a portable movie player also

Led_Zeppelin
09-21-2005, 10:01 PM
It would be too expensive. Buying a PSP, then a memory card for it? If you only want it for music, go with an mp3 player.

foulplay
09-21-2005, 10:34 PM
Anyway you look at it a mp3 player with flash memory will be more expensive/gig than one with a harddrive. My iPod photo gets about 12 hours battery life on a full charge, not bad, more than I ever need, as I'm usually near a computer or power outlet.

That's why I changed it on my iTunes. There's a way that you can change the import mode from .mpeg4(or whatever they're using) to .mp3, which is why my iTunes work on my Nomad Muvo(128 mb, w00t).

What's the difference?
I think iTunes uses either mpeg4, mp4, or Apple Lossless. Anyways, iTunes default importer file is one of those, thus making it only good for portable use on iPods, but luckily they are the type of files that most CD players use(which is true in my case at least). There's a major difference in size, compression, and somewhat a difference in Quality. With the right headphones(none of that earphone crap), iTunes sound really sweet.

I wouldn't mind iPods if they weren't so damn expensive.

But I don't want to spend hours converting music files. :(

Just leave it on while you go to sleep/school/sleep again. It 1 gig takes about 20 minutes (At the most).

It's simple, you just change the conversion type. Sure, then you'd have to convert all your other music, but that's easy, as long as you don't already have 2940928409283421 songs that are .mp4's. Then, you're screwed.

iPods are getting better, though. The Nano is using more flash tech. than hard drive, which eventually could lead to a cheaper iPod(say, $60!). Instead of making .mp3 playing harddrives, they're just make a bunch of storage space that plays music. Flash technology is an untapped source of simple, large storage spaces in physically small areas. That's why my little itty bitty mp3 player lasts longer on one AAA battery than your iPod, because it takes less energy to power(15 hours, b itches)

Harddrives are MUCH cheaper per gig than flash memory to produce. Flash drives may be practical for people with libraries of music like me in the future, but as of now, I couldn't be satisfied with a 5gb drive. My 60 gig iPod Photo is already full, I have to change songs on and off on it, a 5gig wouldn't even be near enough. 5gigs flash is just less than 20gigs harddrive based, 4x the space for less than 25% more money.

That's just plain ignorance. Harddrive MP3 players = ftw for now, until flash becomes a commodity.

I really like IPod's, I have one myself, works well, battery is okay, a bit bruised, but nonetheless still effective, PSP will never be an IPod substitue, Dell's are horrible, the one guy who was a Dell spokesperson smoked a reffer and got caught with it, don't associate with druggies well

There will probably be voice command mp3 players. Only problem is, when you're listening to something and someone beside you says "I really like Killing in the Name of by Rage against the Machine". Some kind of error would probably come up.

I'm having trouble with my ipods, I have a smaller iPod Mini(black) and a iPod Photo (60gig) and can barely store half of my library of mp3s(now in AAC/OGG format) on them at any given time. *crys* Discography > Album > Single

I download by the discography (every record a person has ever released).

what's the point of having that many artist in your ipod(s). you wont listen to all of them.

try getting rid of eps and singles. maybe that wont help.

the point is having all the music that u like with you, so that u can listin to it anytime.
