Have any of you tried installing OS X on your x86(-64) processors? Mine hardware is on the 'nearly compatable' list so I'm going to go buy a NIC that it supports and try it out this weekend. I'm also going to have to get the rosetta patch so that it works on my SSE2 proc. *curses that he can't put it on the good computer*

I don't have a 64bit processor, but I got it working on my little centrino notebook. It's only got a sse2 cpu so I haven't gotten rosetta working (when I installed it a couple weeks ago, they said it wasn't possible).

It's really cool.. and actually making me consider getting a mac mini. I never knew there was more to Mac OSX than just eye candy.

It's built on a BSD core if I remember correctly, so it is EXTREMELY stable. There is a new patch to allow Rosetta to work, once I get it do you want me to throw it up on my server and tell you?

SSE2 patch, for Rosetta: http://72.9.240.23/~foulplay/SSE2_041.rar

;-) I <3 my server

I suggest that you download:
This copy of the DVD http://www.mininova.org/tor/82176
and then apply a patch that I'm going to post a little later (it's still uploading)

Edit:
Here is the Patch to run on the CD (not exactly sure, still downloading the CD myself)

Sadly, I don't have either OS X or x86 processors. I know if I did I would be trying this out. I have read quite a bit about how they are achiving this and it looks quite interesting.

Tell us how that goes.

to clarify, an x86 processor is the processor for windows and linux. pretty much everyone either has OS X or an x86 processor.

i can't wait to get this damn thing installed

Not entirely.

First, linux can be run on almost any processor type, including SPARC, x86, x86-64, em64t, amd64, and powerpc.

Second, x86 is just recent 32 bit architecture used by intel and amd, intel now produces chips in em64t (their 64bit procs) and amd uses amd64. They're also called x86-64 together.

Lastly, OS X, *nix, *BSD, or a x86, or 86-64 proc.

I think its safe to say this can run on computers at least 4 1/2 years old and younger. Im running OSx86 on my crappy dell inspiron 8200 laptop right now.

Here are the specs:

1.8 ghz pentium m
256 mb Ram
Crappy integrated graphics
80 gb hdd

It runs...slow...but it still runs.

Blah blah blah.

That's all I'm hearing from you guys. Do you actually understand all this?

On an added note, the newest version fixed many of the holes used to allow it to be ran on beige box pcs.

finally got my multiboot set up on my laptop :)
i have windows vista beta 1, os x, and gentoo available at boot

probably a stupid idea because windows and mac are very buggy and i don't know linux well enough yet to do everything that i can do in windows xp :P

but it's fun to play with

I suggest you use VLC for all video playback in linux. It rules.

Above file will mount your windows and mac partitions, read only mind you.
(Set as exectuable and run as root, press y so all users can read from it.)

Gentoo is a pretty tough distro to start with, you sure you shouldn't start with something like (k)ubuntu?

Vista is a bit of a memory hog, watch out for those new DRM policies, they're going to make you buy a new monitor to use Vista.
