You can use a few choices....you can either reformat your computer and delete everything...or just track down the virus file itself and delete it...or just do it the easy way and quarintine the damn thing.

Let me guess you thought a friend was sending you a file but it wasn't actually a friend, it was on his computer and it sent the same message to all his contacts including you and it's messed up your mates computer + yours and you don't know what to do. Sounds like the way (the i love you) virus works an old 2002 virus works pretty much the same way i think, it might not be the case and i'm thinking to hard happens alot :/.

Didn't you get the warnings on msn like everybody else 4 months ago saying warning virus potenial risks etc, etc. No oh well to bad i say quarantine them and delete them if only necessary but an important check make sure you have a recovery disk and if not i advise you to make a recovery disk on floppy while you still have a net connection. + back up your files big check i didn't last week and lost my project entitled I hope you die you'll find it on the work in progress thread and because of that i no longer have the source files and having to work with nothing now :( Fuck

Go here with Internet Explorer:

http://www.symantec.org/cgi-bin/securitycheck.cgi

Once there, click 'Go'. Then in the popup that appears, there are two 'Start' buttons, click the one under virus check.

If the popup blocker is getting in the way, you could try holding down the control key while you click it.

Try running the anti virus again. At the end, try manually deleting the virus. There should be a delete button somewheres.

Are you joking? Searching for a virus manually on Windows? You'd end up spending hours, to find nothing. Even if you did find it, chances are you wouldn't be able to manually delete it.

A true virus would be nearly impossible to find. However there are very few if any true computer viruses left in the wild. Most of what is out now is either classified as a worm or a trojan. Both of which are extremely easy to find if you look in the right places, or use the right tools.

I second that. In fact, you'll find a significant portion of them put themselves in %windir%\temp or %windir%\tempor~1

i've fixed some of these on campus
the virus won't let him go to symantec's, mcaffee's, microsoft's, or many other sites to get updates....even won't let NAV connect to live update
you need to go on another computer and download this tool, then burn it to a CD or put in a thumb drive or something so you can run it on your computer

Lol, I don't know if you already solved the problem but, if you can find the file path of the virus, just use killbox to delete it. That's what I use on my pc all the time, works like a charm.

It's somewhere in this search.

Something I use is the TDS-3 it's trail and one time use for free, you get to use it for about a week or a month,(i forget). It'll clean up a good part of your viruses, will leave some still hanging around but, is an improvement.

Another thing you can use is the ewido scan, you'll have to go into safemode and scan for it to effectively work.

If you use WinXP here's how to go into safemode.

Click Start

Run: msconfig

Click Boot.ini tab

Check /SAFEBOOT

Apply, then reboot.

Click that for the ewido software.

Click this for the TDS-3

Hope that, helped.
