View Full Version : I hate Xbox Live
Firedove 08-04-2005, 12:11 AM Well....I decided to purchase an Xbox and get Xbox Live figuring. " Hell, this should be great ". I get home and await for my DSL modem to arrive. When it does the first thing that happens when I hook it up to my Xbox. " Xbox Live not found " my friggin' luck. Keep in mind I was using the DSL modem for my computer.
I call Xbox and they tell me to go to Bellsouth (provider). I call them and they tell me to go back to Xbox saying that they fixed my problem through a stupid method that made it worse. I call Xbox and finally I get a decent smart guy. He gives me the names of the ports I have to open to get in and firewalls must be down and I need to bridge my modem. I am happy. I call Bellsouth and they give me the same bullsh-i-t. So I call XBox yet again and I get sent to the manager of the department. He asks for my information and leaves me hanging by saying. " Thank you for your contribution, we will ensure this does not happen to other Xbox Live customer. We will call you back within 48 hours". Then he hung up.
Basically he said. " Well your screwed but others will be fine ". So I wait...
And true to his word, I get a call a day later and he tells me some really in depth stuff. I write it down hastily and then forget everything he explained to me later. So basically my Xbox Live 12 month membership is collecting dust. I could give them another call but I am done with Xbox Live.
Alot to read, god forbid.

Firedove 08-04-2005, 01:18 AM Ugh. I've given up on online gaming until the DS reaches that point or I get one of the upcoming consoles.

Join evolution VIII, they manually scan members, anyone who is caught being a dick by anyone higher up than them gets banned and the person who refered them gets banned. Kind of a trick to keep you from getting *******s to join.
Firedove 08-04-2005, 01:40 AM My computer is all the way across the room from my Xbox.
I refer you back to my post.
And maybe I will sometime in the future.

*shrug* just saying, xlink kai is different from live and xconnect or whatever. It is based on keeping immature people out.
Puppet 08-04-2005, 07:52 PM when u do the scan what does it say is the problem if it says the dns then that is ur isp fault and not microsofts.
isharted 08-04-2005, 08:50 PM your problem has nothing to do with xbox live, it's all networking
if you have a router (which is most likely the case here) you need to make sure that the router and xbox network settings are set for DHCP.....or manually configure if you know what you are doing. Then you need to go to your router config and unblock the ports that Xbox live uses
if you just have your DSL modem plugged into your computer and just switch the cable back and forth, you need to set up your xbox network config for PPPoE with your username and password to your ISP
i'm sure this is the same thing that Xbox Live and Bellsouth said over the phone, you are just looking for a "plug and play" solution that doesn't exist in this case

That kind of reminds me on the somethingawful forums...except they are much stricter...and their #1 rule is never ever act stupid....and also to not screw their forums up.

Haha, I like those rules.
Firedove 08-07-2005, 04:07 PM Trust me guys, I've been through that and back.
I've tried power cycling (something I heard from on xbox.com...errr something) and my DSL modem is partially a router which, evidently, complicates things. I did the thing where you turn off the router function (forgot what it was called) It is a problem with my DSL modem (I stated it earlier) not my Xbox or Xbox live.
The manager on theXbox help line helped me out alot. the problem is I'm too lazy to get on with what he descirbed...plus I forgot it all already. Not to mention the new age of video game consoles bears down upon us.
I'll just wait for the Revolution. Thanks for the help though =D.
