I didn't like Crank. That poem format she uses makes me want to rip my eyes out.

Same here. I find many prose novels to be a lazy excuse for not putting the time, effort and detail into writing a full fledged novel.

I shouldn't have said most but I was talking about the ones that don't use any real rhythm, rhyming scheme or sophisticated language. Shakespeare used iambic pentameter and invented a whole slew of common every-day sayings as well as creating one of the most popular plays in existence.

Did he write anything that was actually bad? I mean, Romeo and Juliet was cheesy as hell but it was still skillful. Then again, he supposedly stole some plays...

Honestly, all his comedies combined are like maybe 3 original plays total, and the tragedies are much funnier than the comedies.

That is often the case. I owe it to the fact that we can look at these things from the outside and say "How stupid of that person," but we should actually take a moment and ask: "would I myself do that?"

Truthfully, I think a single typical prolific director, novelist, mangaka, etc. today can muster up more variety in any two random adjacent works than Shakespeare did in his entire repertoire.

Wait, did you see the Shakespeare Abridged thing?

I thought I made the reference as blatantly obvious as possible. But yes.
