it wasn't computer animated at all. The rims on a tire are metal. The thing the tires went up the ramp to push was a gigantic magnet. i held the wheels in place.

"The Cog television commercial was a dramatic commercial for the Honda Accord, made (almost completely) without any CGI or trick photography." - WikiPedia.
Note the "(almost completely)"?
It seems as though its not all done in reality to me.

Your wrong again, the rims are not magnetic, surely u know that only copper, iron and lead are magnetic. not alloy. the advertisement was made MAINLY by cg.

there were weights attached the the rim
and the rest was inertia, this whole video was primarily based on gravity and the power of inertia.
There's been extensive forum discussions on the 'cog' video
So if you attach weights to the upper right side, the weight will change the way it normally works,
I believe the only cg portion was the 'window opening up' with just the sensors, because of the wodden plank in the way.
if you look at the tires closely, they have a certain heaviness to them on the right hand side, because of the weights, it gives it a different property from the norm of gravity. the way it 'bounces back' towards the right, given that it's only rotating a small degree, it's not hard to make it go upward, especially if there's sufficient resistance.
the film was not mainly made of cg, altho it's quite believable.
i personally like the 'walking windshield wipers' portion, i find it to be the most 'alive' mechanism.

ok, i was wrong about the 1 second of cg, it wasn't the window but the muffler
Cog Real (http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/page.cfm?objectid=12844132&method=full&siteid=89488&headline=TAKE%20606)
Physics (http://physics.about.com/cs/mechanics/v/070603.htm)
Now you go home, k thx.
IIRC, cog is/was totally real, but it was filmed in two halves, and later merged together as one continuous video.
