View Full Version : NintendoON - Sweetest fake vid EVER!!!!!!

Isharted posted this on the Nintedo Revoltion thread (link here (http://gprime.net/board/showthread.php?t=1313)), but I didn't think it would reach much of an audience there, and I thought it deserved it's own thread.

So before you flame the crap out of me, I would just like to mention that all credit for the find goes to isharted (or whoever found it first). Thanx!

So anyways, this is a freakin sweet vid somebody made (I would really like to know who) as a teaser for the Nintendo Revolution.

It is SOOOOO professionally done, you'll swear it's a real teaser...

Although, I assure you, it is a confirmed fake, so before you get too excited...

So well-done, words can't even describe it! All the customized 3D and cell-shaded animation...the sweet overlay animation...all set to some really sweet music!

So sad...this would've been the ultimate console.. :Confuzzle

NintendoON (http://www.missouri.edu/~bah347/gprime/nintendoon.wmv)

edit (isharted): my university is now hosting the link, so it should be good as far as bandwidth [and really fast, too :P] pm me if there is a problem

That was really awesome. Someone put a lot of time into that video, why? I don't know. It's not even remotely real. And even if it was, the world isn't ready for something like that. Let's have hover cars first.

The zoom-out was the best.

^Did anybody pay attention to the location of the microphone?

It's a bit above the left eye!

That gave it away, combined with the crappy Mario scene at the end.

wow, that was a sweet video, except from that mario scene at the end, that sucked. everything else looked amazing.

Stokes
05-20-2005, 10:37 AM
Yeah, they really should've edited that out. Nintendo would never make a Mario game with a life-size mario, let alone one that looks that weird...

And don't ask me why the end got cut off...I really have no clue...

So, John, how's that for update material? :D

liked it! // btw, is that "on" thing a upcoming nintende console or
is it just.. fake :S?

Read my initial post.

It's entirely, 100%, genuine fake, my friend.

Hence the title: "Sweetest fake vid EVER!!!!!!"

Yes, somebody really does have an awful lot of time on their hands...
That must have taken at least a year to make, with all the high-quality CGI...oh man...

^Why'd he do that?

That sucks.

Hope he doesn't lock this one too...

Although this one advertises it as being fake, so I think I'm in the clear...

Yo. could you host this at yousendit.com or something? It saw Bandwith Exceeeded when i click on the link. I want to see it badly.

I went to yousendit.com and it appears as if that website doesn't host files to the general public, but rather, it sends large files to an individual via email...

So how can I "host" a file there?

And if you want it now, send me an AIM message and i'll send it to you. My AIM is: Sneak1440

Oh, and if you want to see it at that address, try it at a time of low traffic, like some weird time (in US/Canadian time zones) during the week. Weekends generally have the most traffic.

(It is my intent to explain the way I see this situation being a reality, perhaps a hoax, but a definite reality that should not be thrown out based on nobody owning up to the source of this video release. If for some reason I feel the need to have to farther explain even more logic I’ve tried to employ to persuade the unbelieving masses of the potential console we have here, I will dig up more research until I feel it is pointless in trying to explain things to hopeless idiots.)

Let me start out by raising a few very important questions in relation to the rumored NintendoOn video (http://www.missouri.edu/~bah347/gprime/nintendoon.wmv)

1.) The biggest question I can ask Nintendo is “What have you been doing over the past 10 years since N64, your last big innovation (3D games)?”

(Mario64 being the first successful console, true 3D game released bringing the age of 3D gaming into full swing instead of treading water. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Mario_64)

I always wondered if GCN was pushed out the door and into market only because of the need to have a newer console to still compete with PS2 and Xbox. It never seemed to be a legit system, boasting no new features, merely better graphics and a slightly different controller; nothing all that big in innovation standards.

In the Jul 2005 issue of “Nintendo Power” magazine, Iwata (President of Nintendo) is said to be “asking gamers to return to one of his teasers: Every home system has had a player holding a controller, connected to a console, connected to a TV. Iwata ensures that the Revolution will take an entirely new approach to the interaction between console, TV, controller and now WiFi.”

(Numerous sources of Iwata can be found online such as http://www.n-sider.com/articleview.php?articleid=469, including “"...software sells hardware. People buy hardware to play the games they love. I agree with Steve Jobs, the head of Apple, when he says, "Software is the user experience." Software is the driving technology not just of computers, but of all consumer electronics..." - Satoru Iwata, GDC 2005””)

Back in 1994, when Win95 was being released, I had a long discussion about hardware with my computer-repairman brother about software-hardware relations. He stated himself that software is always behind hardware; that developing software that requires hardware to be more advanced just doesn’t happen in the real world. Halo2 has much better graphics than Halo1 does. But why didn’t Halo1 have those graphics when the hardware was the same? Easy; software is always behind.

While I have not ran across any credible evidence of this to be true, it was mentioned that hardware that overpowers game software engineers can put economic strain on companies due to human resources still required to develop games. Games sell a system, whether Sony and Microsoft will admit to it: Hardware isn’t everything in a game.

What exactly does this mean? Is vaguely answering my own question of what Nintendo has been doing over the last 10 years? Does this video have any weight? The patents on Virtual Reality implementation have existed for a decade or more. Infact, Virtual Reality gaming has always been on the side topics of revolutionary gamers’ minds.

On the website “MadSci Network”, Chris Rose, an Imaging Science and Biomedical Engineer at the University of Manchester, wrote a Feb 2001 article in its Computer Science section (http://www.madsci.org/posts/archives/feb2001/981165169.Cs.r.html) detailing a look into Virtual Reality and its possible application years before this video was spread throughout the public.

There are innumerable references to Virtual Reality online. The NintendoOn is extremely similar to an existing patent (http://appft1.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PG01&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.html&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=%2220050041100%22.PGNR.&OS=DN/20050041100&RS=DN/20050041100) which only verifies its possibility. This patent was issued in 1997, 8 years ago and counting. That is 8 years of development time for a console such as NintendoOn, or what I will later describe as the Revolution.

With hardware now capable of powering the processes required to create a Virtual Reality world on a game, it comes as no surprise that this video showed up. Consider the following in terms of hardware demands. A separate unit, such as the alleged NintendoOn idea, to display the 3D aspects of the game, would reduce CPU and Graphics requirements on the main console. NintendoOn quite possibly could be an optional controller interface for the Revolution. Nintendo has not revealed controllers, but suggests very large bounds in gameplay. VR fits and exceeds possibly what we’re ‘expecting’ from Nintendo. Maybe that’s the problem… but does 10 years of research and development persuade any question of it actually happening?

Some argue costs exceeding Nintendo’s abilities. Let me explain what profit is. Sony Playstation is not profit. Microsoft Xbox is not profit. What profit is, is making money off of every console you sell, and not losing money from costs of advertising, media gathering, marketing and general hype. Hardware based around PC architecture is also a bad idea. It’s too similar and too ‘price-fixed’. CNN reported some of Nintendo’s 2005 earnings (http://money.cnn.com/2005/05/26/news/international/nintendo_fy.dj/) in a May 26, 2005 article. “Group sales rose a marginal 0.1% to Y515.29 billion from Y514.81 billion, while operating profit grew 3.6% to Y111.52 billion,” Nintendo said. “For this fiscal year through March 2006, Nintendo forecasts a group net profit of Y75 billion on sales of Y520 billion. The earnings outlook is based on an assumption that the dollar will average at Y107 and the euro at Y135.” Do a little math, and that’s over a 14% profit, a number which has been steady for some time in terms of profit being larger than expenses. Sony, however, from accessing a 3 year summary from 2002 through 2004 (http://www.shibuimarkets.com/company/sony_corporation.html) shows Sony profits changing from 0.2%, 1.55%, and to 1.18%. This is the entire Sony corp, including music sales, videos and all electronics. Final numbers and projections for 2005 are only speculative at the moment, but these numbers following are solid… note that 2005, with the Nintendo DS, profit

Here are some more numbers:
2002
Corporation: Net Sales (Yen): Net Profit Margin: Net Gain:
Sony Corp 7.5 trillion 0.2% 15 billion
Nintendo 515 billion 21.64% 111.5 billion

One thing I can’t stress enough is Nintendo’s understanding of the gaming market in terms of what consumers look for. http://www.games-digest.com/2005/06/ contains an article from June 15 titled “PSP video not enticing fans”. “Only 6% of people intending on buying a PSP rate it as a top extra feature…. Unsurprisingly, the main draws were graphics (34%), gaming capabilities (29%), and an extensive game catalogue (29%). Bad news for Sony and even worse for the handful of studios that have released UMD movies for the PSP.” This is something Nintendo has been stating for a very long time, and did again at the 2005 E3. Games are more important than hardware; games sell a console. Other articles on the page detail cost-deficient numbers from Microsoft, similar to Sony’s lack of profit, basing Microsoft’s new console at $300 retail price “will actually set the company back around $375 per unit.” based on ‘industry analysts’. Now, whether this is an accurate number or not, almost everyone agrees that both Sony and Microsoft lose money in producing their consoles due to over-marketing competitions, hardware costs and any number of other issues you could find to be true. As of a June 6 article on the same page, DS continues ‘storming’ ahead of PSP in terms of game sales and console sales in Japan.

The bottom line? Nintendo is a smart company, and won’t be going away any time soon. Nintendo, being smart like this, has probably been using its profit for the research and development of this new VR system as well as a quick fix to battle PSP, the DS. Nintendo has never ‘panicked’ from being on the low end of market share and has the money backup to be able to invest in quick fixes like Sony and Microsoft seem to live off of. Infact, Nintendo has to play smart because they have the most to lose. Microsoft and Sony can both back out of the gaming industry and still have other profit areas to seek solitude in while Nintendo does not (aside from a recent stir of an anime division, but it’s too soon to tell).

2.) “Why is Nintendo being so vague about everything, and so secretive?”

Turns out when I think about it, Nintendo was never into advertising much, never into overly ‘hyping’ like Sony and Microsoft are, and actually seems to like playing with consumers’ minds.

Nintendo quite possibly could be using that other tactic that they enjoy… being vague, leaving people guessing, all while actually having this NintendoOn in development.

A few key notes to emphasize when comparing this NintendoOn video to E3 details, E3 revealed no controllers. It revealed no video of any Revolution aspects other than the simple picture of the console (which most pictures are CGIs) ().

E3 revealed NO controllers. This is one of the larger speculations of NintendoOn. NintendoOn could be an optional control and display format to use with the Revolution.

"We invented the current way a console is played - in front of a television and holding a controller - but maybe that image will change." - Satoru Iwata, May 13, 2004 (www.n-sider.com)

Change from what? Using a controller? Using a TV? NintendoOn gains more support from this vague quote as well as many others since a VR use would make sense in this case. When you consider the options, you could have the Revolution meaning the main infront console, used for use with the TV and the old console games. The NintendoOn could very well be an optional interface to use with the VR games to be released. Consumers would not need to invest money into a VR system they won’t use, but still be able to use the Revolution for what they want. This would keep consumers happier in terms of spending on exactly what they want… VR games to be released… chances are they won’t have much. The incentive is the backward compatible ability. Revolution will have a function with or without VR support in terms of games.

If you sell them separately, your losses will not be as great and your consumers will be happier in case of failure.

Nintendo has also invested in a gyroscopic company called ‘Gyration’ (http://www.gamecubicle.com/news-nintendo_gyration.htm). In an interview, Gyration is asked “Which patents did Gyration license Nintendo?” The answer was US application Patents 5,898,421 and 5,440,326 which deal with tracking human motion and translating it into linear movement of computer graphic images. What this means is Nintendo has invested in gaining the ability to use wireless controllers which are controlled via movement in air and not solely button pushing.

The simplest visualization I can give you of this is applying it to Episode 1 Racer for N64. In order to drive the pod-racer, you would sit in a chair, rest your arms (hopefully) and use your hands to control the racer. Push both hands forward for thrusts, the farther you deviate from your original resting point, the faster you throttle up. Pulling one hand back a ways makes you turn in the pulled back direction. Pulling it into a reverse, pulled back position would make the pod ‘slide’, or in old terms holding down the Z button on N64. Breaks and backwards throttle would be pulling both hands back. Boosters would be thrusting both hands forward and holding them out until you want to stop. Turning in this fashion would be using your hands like a virtual steering wheel, rotating from side to side. Without boosting, this steering wheel maneuver would make your pod rotate 90 degrees, same as pushing the left and right view buttons on the N64. In order to press start, you’d simply throw your hand into your lap quickly as if hitting a control.

Does this spark any serious game play ideas yet? It does with me… adding the idea of VR to shooter games, racing games, flight simulator games, RPGs, it just boggles my mind with possibilities. Tie Fighter Revolution by LucasArts… MMO Star Wars flight simulator in VR. w00t!

Not only do game possibilities soar with VR, so does general entertainment. If video can be recorded in a fashion that allows concerts to be shown in VR, tours of cities, rollercoaster ride videos… the list goes on, but all are not necessarily video ‘games’. Entertainment can be on a new level.

I’ll end this argument for NintendoOn with a statement that nobody, at current, can say that NintendoOn is really a fluke. When I take into account 10 years of research, and 10 years of quiet activity, I totally believe it’s possible.

(If any of the above statements are not fact, they are definitely very close. I included all source URLs for reference and backing. I am only speculating and stating that Nintendo could very well be doing all of this with great anticipation.)

I hate to burst your bubble but this is real. Well probrably not for nintendo but sony has resently been granted permission to make something exacly like that where u can touch, smell, taste, and everything. This is not a fake. If you dont believe me you can go to www.cnn.com and look it up.

Why would you just post a link of www.cnn.com and tell us to look it up...

If you want people to belive you, post a direct link.

The only problem with this article is the fact that it is a patent only, and a recent patent. You can't design technology, science that hasn't been used yet, in a few weeks or months.

If NASA were to come out saying, "We're going to Pluto," we wouldn't be going tomorrow. It'd be atleast 10-20 years down the line. This applies to Sony if they can even muster that kind of scientific breakthrough... not to mention government intervention of possible 'mind control' issues.

And as the previous poster stated, saying 'look it up' doesn't prove anything. If that's in any way a response to me posting links as evidence I would pitty its use... but probably not.

The poster's purpose is to state that we can't believe everything we see online. My purpose was to state why we could believe that video to be real, conceptually, research-ended and financially, on Nintendo's part.

It's hard to say until Nintendo says something concrete.

As to the poster a few replies ago... according to some movies, we'll be on Mars by 2010 or 2020, but I can't post evidence on that. 10 years to develop a VR system is more real than any untouched Sony patent without the technology to do it yet.

"No no no, it's a fake... but look at this! -This- is real..." Hah.
