View Full Version : Characters
happylittleClayFox 06-09-2008, 08:23 PM EDIT: Heres a good basic template you can use as an example when creating your own, courtesy of happylittleClayFox. Categories generally include:
Name, age, gender, personality, appearance, history, relevant information to the game, abilities, and anything else of importance.
Ok, we obviously might use the same character or want to draw from one on more than one occasion, right? Post your characters here. Editing your post by tacking on to it might be a better idea than new posts just throwing that out there but basically, Gabriel had the best idea: a basic template.
Name:
Sex:
Race/Species:
Age:
Country of Origin (assume one of the countries established in the introduction):
Appearance:
Personal History:
Skills:
And add to that as the RP in question demands. Post your templates here and if you want, put the RP he/she belongs to next to the name. Gabriel, if this is good stuff, like sticky it man.

gabrielwhist 06-09-2008, 08:58 PM Umm, I can I guess, but it easier for the players if you post the template they need to use in the new RP along with the storyline. This could be a good example though.
Ryu-Nacho 06-09-2008, 09:09 PM There are basic, shared requirements for every outline. He's talking about putting that in here. Extras addons and changes can be made on a story-to-story basis.
happylittleClayFox 06-09-2008, 09:29 PM Well, the way I'm used to RPing is you write your post as a short story that is sort of open ended, so the next post can follow. It doesn't have to, but it needs to further the event.
gabrielwhist 06-09-2008, 09:48 PM Yeah, that is generally how it works, but usually you create a character first.
happylittleClayFox 06-09-2008, 09:56 PM That's what you do with your first post.
gabrielwhist 06-10-2008, 12:01 AM Nah, you're first post is usually filling out a character template for the game. Then you start playing. First you give people basic knowledge of who you are.
gussa 06-10-2008, 02:17 AM i kinda like clayfox' idea just because it means instant roleplay.. without having to wait around for others to decide to begin.. and it means that people can the fit themselves in where they think it's appropriate..
nothing personal.. i just think clayfox has a good idea there..
Ryu-Nacho 06-10-2008, 09:44 AM I think a combination of the two would be good. Instant ability to RP sounds nice, but if nobody actually knows what to RP about, it could cause trouble. The way gabe set his up, people know a bit better whats going on, but it could be a while before the RP actually starts. So, maybe a background of the world/situation in the first post, and then setting up characters while writing story sections after that?
gabrielwhist 06-10-2008, 11:54 AM I think its good to set up the story basics, like just the world it takes place in and basic information, and a plot if you want (if not it can be written by everyone as you go) and a character template so everyone knows who everyone is and everyone has their own well formed unique character. Whether you wait to start for others to join, or just start and allow others to jump in whenever with their introduction to the story and character template is up to the creator of the RP.
Dudeo 06-13-2008, 04:15 PM Each story should have it's own thread display page. The RP forum should be standalone, and each story would be progressed by event threads, so you would post only in the event threads you wanted your character to participate in. Only the story starter could post event threads, and spamming players would not be allowed into that story's part of the forum.

gussa 06-15-2008, 10:22 AM not enough people on gprime actively use the RP forum enough to justify that much effort being put into the RP forum's layout
happylittleClayFox 06-15-2008, 08:36 PM Yeah, Gussa is right. But even if we did, that would just be silly

I was merely suggesting a way to change RP's layout to make it more user-friendly, perhaps to attract more RPers in order to justify it. It would certainly make it less confusing. (AKA more confusing, but whatever.)
