View Full Version : Twilight
NickyChris 04-02-2008, 07:14 PM Who's gonna see it when it comes out? This book seems to be the new Harry Potter, but for girls and male romantics. I didn't finish the first book, but not because it was bad, I just stopped for no reason, but I was probably only fifteen chapters away from finishing, so I get the gist of the first one, yay for long sentences.
Thing is though, I saw some of the cast and was very disappointed. Hopefully they make them look more fitting in the movie. The one I like least is Edward... but maybe he'll grow on me.
It's interesting that it's set on the Olympic Peninsula because of the "gloomy weather," but it's actually one of the most beautiful and pristine old growth forests in the world. Too bad they chose to film it in dumpy Kalama. Since it was filmed around here I might check it out at some point, prolly not in the theater though.
Supa Fool 04-02-2008, 08:34 PM Girls on my bus talk Twilight/New Moon/Eclipse it for fricking HOURS. I hope you never bring this series (or its movies) up again.
NickyChris 04-03-2008, 04:44 PM You didn't... have to read this thread.
Supa Fool 04-03-2008, 04:54 PM Seeing the word on the screen is enough to annoy me. :/ "Twilight"
gabrielwhist 04-03-2008, 05:31 PM TWILIGHT.
Ryu-Nacho 04-03-2008, 05:32 PM My mom and sister both like the series, but they don't go quite as crazy over it as they do Harry Potter.
diet poop 04-03-2008, 08:56 PM I refuse to read it because everybody keeps obsessing over it and demanding that I read it. Also, I dislike how Vampires are "In" now. It's really irritating me.
Supa Fool 04-03-2008, 09:40 PM TWILIGHT.
*whimpers in corner*

Pride keeps people from enjoying simple things.
Drunken_Shinobi 04-03-2008, 11:03 PM I haven't read it yet, and I'm not exactly going to read it yet because I'm reading a damn book for school as well as a book on Genghis Khan.
gussa 04-04-2008, 10:13 AM I refuse to read it because everybody keeps obsessing over it and demanding that I read it. Also, I dislike how Vampires are "In" now. It's really irritating me.
i liked vampires before it was cool......
NickyChris 04-04-2008, 03:26 PM Find something else then...
diet poop 04-04-2008, 11:56 PM Pride keeps people from enjoying simple things.
It's not pride, its annoyance. Seriously, people keep throwing the book at me and its pissing me off.
Natus Lumen 04-06-2008, 06:54 PM My sister and ex-girlfriend read them, and that was one thing. They were all excited and stuff about the movie trailer blah blah blah.
And then my friend David asks me where I can get a copy of the second book. I just stared piercingly at him for several seconds and he said, "Okay I'll stop reading them. God."
NickyChris 04-06-2008, 09:26 PM Question: When have vampires not been cool since they were invented?
It's not pride, its annoyance. Seriously, people keep throwing the book at me and its pissing me off.
I suppose I ca see how that could get annoying. People sometimes assume I'm into certain things, or would be, because of how I come off.
Supa Fool 04-06-2008, 10:31 PM The girls just ask me to read it so they can claim they convinced someone who isn't gay to read one of the books. So I get like 10 people a week who ask me to.
Willy_Wonka 04-06-2008, 10:32 PM What the fuck?
What is this? A movie?
poisonedcandy_X 04-06-2008, 11:56 PM Well, you know, those books are kind of...my obsession.
So me and my mom and Amber are going to see the first showing!
Like we do with Harry potter. But I like these more. [;
Yeah, the people they chose were a little...eh.
But I'm determined to go in unbiased and see what happens.
I don't try to make anyone read them, though.
I've definitely suggested people read them.
And I got some of my friend obsessed.
But if someone doesn't want to, it's just like "oh well."
Why try to make someone read something that doesn't interest them?
They'll just stop after reading only a bit, or pretend to have read it.
Or that's what I would probably do, anyway.
gabrielwhist 04-07-2008, 01:28 AM I read them. They're... tolerable. Of course I like teen dramas like The OC and One Tree Hill. Blame it on Tony, he makes me watch them with him, and I gotta read the stuff he gives me else he won't read the stuff I give him, or dress me for dates.
NickyChris 04-07-2008, 12:44 PM What the fuck?
What is this? A movie?
Also a book.
poisonedcandy_X 04-07-2008, 06:33 PM Also a book.
That is soon-to-be a movie.
And I can't wait. ^^
P.S. Nicky! My mom said "probably." [:
[You'll know what I mean]
NickyChris 10-18-2008, 01:23 PM Just finished Twilight this morning. Not incredible, but it was very good.
I'll start New Moon relatively soon since my sister bought me the first and second book for my birthday. I now regret never finishing Twilight three years ago. I could have actually been an original fan of something.
I take back what I said about the movie cast. Reading the book again, I think they all fit really well.
diet poop 10-19-2008, 12:31 AM I just saw the trailer for this movie, and I can honestly say that it looks fucking retarded. I can guarantee you that this will be a shit movie enjoyed by nobody except squealing immature fangirls who obsess over how hot a fictional fictional character is.

Or people who simply enjoyed the book, and want to see it in movie form, like me. I'm not going to not see it just because the majority of the people going are deluded fanfreaks who have themselves convinced that if they move to Forks, Washington, that ♥♥♥Edward♥♥♥ will be waiting for them with a wedding ring. You can't judge it so harshly if you haven't even read it dp. :/
I mean, if you don't want to read it, that's fine, but you don't have to be all... well..... cranky about it.

Movies and books are two different things.
If a trailer makes a movie look like a steaming piece of shit, then its probably safe to say its going to be one.
He's completely allowed to judge a movie by its trailer.
NickyChris 10-19-2008, 02:00 PM I am aware that he's allowed to judge. But then again there have been many a trailer that have made movies look as if they would be some of the most epic creations man has ever made and they sucked testicles.
Though I will admit I don't agree with their marketing methods for this movie. They're trying to make it look like an action movie, and I highly doubt that will be the result, because there was hardly any action in the book at all. I trust it'll be somewhat tru to the book since it seemed like the author was completely involved in the movie0making process from start to finish. But who knows.
Willy_Wonka 10-19-2008, 02:19 PM who would want to go to the movies and see a book that they already read?
why not just stay home and read the book?
thats 20 bucks saved
NickyChris 10-19-2008, 02:22 PM Because it's fun.

Like Wonka said, I don't give a turd about the book. The book could be the greatest novel of the century for all I know, but the movie looks like the most loosely constructed, weakly acted, and most "directed-towards-13-year-old-fangirls-who-don't-care-if-the-movie-is-even-good-but-obsess-over-it-anyways-because-it-has-to-do-with-cute-boy-vampires-which-are-'in'-right-now-even-though-vampires-are-not-cute-boys-but-hideous-light-fearing-beasts-who-feed-on-the-life-force-of-others-and-enjoy-polygamy" movie ever made.

inkblot 10-24-2008, 01:57 AM The book has several problems.
One, Bella and Edward´s relationship is creepy. Not only is Edward basically a stalker, but he disabled Bella´s truck so she couldn´t see Jacob. He reads the minds of other people so he can track Bella at all times. Doesn´t that come across as a bit disturbing?
Two, the characters are one-dimensional. What do Bella and Edward think about or like besides each other?
And three, SPARKLY. VAMPIRES. WTF, MEYER.

NickyChris 10-25-2008, 04:47 PM The more I read this saga, the more I realize that:
1.) Bella's reactions to most things are completely and utterly irrational. It kind of drives me mad.
2.) I'm starting to really hate Jacob Black.
3.) I wish Stephanie Meyer had considered more options in terms of where this story could have gone.
4.) Veronica needs to die already. I'm more than halfway through the third book and the FIRST book's villain is still alive.
5.) I can't put these books down.

The book was inspired by a dream... (chapter 13 of Twilight was that dream, actually. You know, where they're in the meadow and what-not), so it's kind of a given that some things will be bizarre.
In terms of your question regarding Edward and Bella... well, that's kind of the point isn't it? Not that I agree. I wish Bella's priorities were set a little differently, because the second book was just agony.
(btw, anyone thinking it clever to say something like "no one cares"... I mean, this is a thread about Twilight, and it's my thread, so... it's not like there's anyone forcing you to read it)
MeTal CaNdYcaNe 10-26-2008, 11:21 PM I'll see the movie, but I'll probably come out of it swearing about how wrong they got everything. Which is weird, because I only got into the books last summer.
I didn't wanna read them because I'm not big on romance, but i started them and I liked them. I think I'm going soft -_-
NickyChris 10-29-2008, 06:22 PM Sodom!
inkblot 10-29-2008, 06:40 PM So you mean that you actually READ the book?
I heard the book was as bad as Eragon and even My Immortal, so I read it hoping for a trainwreck of a book. Unfortunately, it's not that bad, it's just boring.
Also, if you buy the book, you are helping ban gay marriage in California.

NickyChris 10-29-2008, 07:48 PM Reading these books is kind of like being on a roller coaster that's flat, slow, and dull for about five minutes, until a small bump shows up out of nowhere that wakes you up for a while. Then, after that one small bump, the track remains flat and slow for an extra twenty minutes afterward and your interest fades once again. Right as you're about to fall asleep, the car is suddenly ascending upward, at first slowly, and then accelerates more and more and more until you reach two-hundred feet, and then you plummet to the ground and the ride is finally fun, though as you leave the ride you realize it was a pretty enjoyable ride overall.

I find it hilarious that a mormon woman sat in an easy chair a few feet away from one of the most famous lesbians in the US.
NickyChris 11-09-2008, 04:28 PM Well, done with all the books. I'm a little sick of Twilight now. My sister has just started getting into them, and... I'm ashamed to say that she and I got into a "Who do you think could be Edward?/Wow, he could NEVER pull Edward off!" argument yesterday. After the movie comes out, I quit Twilight.
I need a new book obsession.
