View Full Version : a clockwork orange
gussa 03-24-2008, 07:55 AM im sorry to say this because i really wanted to belive in the film and i really like stanly kubricks other stuff but
the book was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better for these reasons.
1.the movie didnt go on to mention the whole last chapter of the book where alex is cured but then makes a concious decision to reform and mature.
2. the movie missed the reference and link to the title of the book in the scene where they pillage the country house and rape the woman... in the book alex finds a manuscript on the desk entitled "a clockwork orange". also there are other references throughout the book.
3. the movie was basically tits and violence.... the way it was shot, what was cut out, all of it was just pop culture tits and gore... (very very fake gore)
Natus Lumen 03-24-2008, 09:21 AM I thought it was a decent movie. Luckily I didn't watch it with my parents....
I haven't read the book, but the story still seems like a legit concept.
Who gives a fuck, it was a great movie.
gussa 03-26-2008, 06:45 AM but it was an EPIC book...
the film didnt do the book justice.. it was simply tits and blood....
gabrielwhist 03-26-2008, 10:04 PM What more could you ask for?

Substance and Storyline
gabrielwhist 03-27-2008, 01:47 AM Note the joking nature of the post.

No film ever does a book justice, except for Fight Club, The Shawshank Redemption, The Godfather and LA Confidential to an extent.
gussa 03-27-2008, 09:00 AM but this film didnt even attempt.
i swear it was like stanley kubrick just cut out the bits invoolving pointy things and blood.. and put them in next to the rape scenes....
the book isnt about that... not in the slightest...
THERES MEANT TO BE A FUCKING MORAL.
the book isnt part of the literary canon because its particularly violent. its there because theres more to it. its different from any other book.
you clearly aren't the greatest of film analysts then.
Natus Lumen 03-28-2008, 08:24 AM Gussa, you're way overexaggerating this. I haven't read the book, and I understood the basic moral of the story. So, in that way, there was a moral to the movie, even if it wasn't as pronounced as in the book.
gussa 03-29-2008, 01:34 AM how could there be a moral?
the movie ended as soon as he was cured?
Natus Lumen 03-30-2008, 04:40 PM The moral: "Forced psychological reform doesn't work for shit."
gussa 03-31-2008, 12:09 AM ok but the moral would be better accentuated by the last chapter because it then says
"you cant force change upon people. you need to let them change"
gussa 03-31-2008, 12:10 AM It's implied.
how exactly is it implied that alex matures?
seriously.. enlighten me.....
MeTal CaNdYcaNe 03-31-2008, 08:49 PM I need to read the book.
But I liked the movie. Twas twisted. And I was never sure at the end whether he was cured or just reverted back to his old behavior.

when he said
"oh i was cured" he meant of his mind control thereapy (brain washing, whatever you want to call it)
poisonedcandy_X 04-07-2008, 06:39 PM I haven't seen it or read the book. >__>
But you know, you make me want to read the book and not watch the movie.
I think I will. ^^
[I may watch the movie, though. Eventually.]
gabrielwhist 04-08-2008, 05:49 AM See I always thought the moral of the movie was even hellish chaos is better than forced order. Freedom over safety.
