View Full Version : OLD RPG WEEK: Mon 7th Jan - Sun 13 Jan '08
I've decided that I'm gonna play all the RPGs I have that were made after FF7 in the coming week. That's about 20 so I'm not gonna complete any of them, but whatever. As a build up to ORW I've actually started on Star Ocean: Till the End of Time and Zone of the Enders.
P.S. I'm begging to remember why I never actually completed SO. Even though it's generally a good game, the voice acting sucks worse than a 70 year old porn star. And you can't skip through the cut scenes because they usually contain some really important info. On the plus side though, the scenes without talking are beautiful, even if some of the movements look robotic, and delayed. Bloody Japs.
On a side note: Why's the Sony section so unpopular? It seems like I visit every couple months and that's it.
Krusty_The_Klown 01-05-2008, 07:11 PM Well there's basically nothing to talk about. You simply stated that you were gonna do something in a very remote section of this forum. There is nothing to do but read this:

That was my question: why is the Sony section like this? The Wii sux (i.e. is boring to any gamer between 16-25), the 360's hot, but mostly only at their exclusive titles. Stuff's happening with Sony. Good stuff, bad stuff... stuff.
Krusty_The_Klown 01-06-2008, 04:54 PM Ohh... probably because it's a gaming section, which is a section within a section. And many people are aware that not many will post here so they don't make threads here, resulting in even less posts. And also, I have an Xbox 360 and it's pretty good. Too bad the TV in my room sucks and I can't read the small text during the game. I heard the PS3 is going to make a comeback with a lot of new games that are promising.
gabrielwhist 01-06-2008, 05:07 PM Yeah, they cut the cost of production drastically, I don't know how, but its only 400 bucks now, rather than minimum of what, 500, 600?
RPG's after FF7 are barely old.
Heyyou27 01-06-2008, 08:36 PM That was my question: why is the Sony section like this? The Wii sux (i.e. is boring to any gamer between 16-25), the 360's hot, but mostly only at their exclusive titles. Stuff's happening with Sony. Good stuff, bad stuff... stuff.Because it's popular to dislike the PS3 after all the things Sony's marketing and PR division fucked up with the PS3. I generally try to give my Wii, 360, and PS3 equal playing time, although Uncharted was quite a pleasant surprise.
gabrielwhist 01-06-2008, 09:01 PM You have all three? Jesus.
Willy_Wonka 01-06-2008, 09:01 PM I bought Metal Gear Solid yesterday.
I know its not an RPG, but its still a badass ol' game.

Yes; I'm a PC gamer at heart, but recently have been quite disappointed with my original platform of choice. I also have a DS Lite, somewhere...
Willy_Wonka 01-06-2008, 09:13 PM your sig made me lol

True that.

You appear to have a fascination with jizz. You should get that checked out.

Profound response.
gabrielwhist 01-06-2008, 11:18 PM Why thank you.
Heyyou27 01-07-2008, 10:31 AM True that.
You appear to have a fascination with jizz. You should get that checked out.I don't know what you're talking about. In my avatar the animal is simply drinking milk, and Bill Gates is getting hit with a pie in my signature.
Krusty_The_Klown 01-07-2008, 04:05 PM What about Baloo bouncing up and down? A trampoline perhaps or a maybe getting tickled?
Zetex 01-07-2008, 05:13 PM Hahaha
I just noticed his sig.

Like what? I think 2007 was a fine year for PC gaming.
Are you kidding? For instance, compare Fifa '08 on the PC to the PS3 version. Actually, don't. You'd have to compare it to the PS2 version to be fair. Even then, it'd be close...
Update: I've completed SO2, ZOE (both endings), ZOE 2nd runner, and I'm 27 hrs into FF X-2.
As a side note, I think I'm gonna die from sleep deprivation. I've had 5 hrs of sleep since Friday and I've still been doing me regular exercise routine.
A week is not enough for all this. SO 2 took 52 hrs rushing through the game (though I'll admit, I used a file that was already at least 20 hrs in). Still FF 7,8,9,10,12, DoC, Breath of fire 3, 4, and 5, Valkyrie Profile, Drakengard, Chrono Cross, Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2... I have a lot of RPGs, I'd need a month.
Heyyou27 01-07-2008, 09:18 PM Like what? I think 2007 was a fine year for PC gaming.UT3 and Crysis were supposed to be two of the largest titles of the year, and both games flopped in sales. For me, Crysis simply didn't run well enough(I don't settle for some 30 frame per second bullshit on the fastest card out with antialiasing disabled). Unreal Tournament 3 was even worse as the game was severely gimped in graphics, interface, and gameplay to make it better suited for the Xbox360 and PS3. I won't say I was disappointed with the Orange Box, but Episode 2 and Portal were very short(and not too visually appealing). I don't play too many online games these days so Team Fortress 2 wasn't a hit with me either. Bioshock was a headache as well, between the lack of true widescreen support, antialiasing, and being punished as a consumer with SecuRom, I don't know how I was suppose to enjoy what was considered to be such a great game on the Xbox360.
Are you kidding? For instance, compare Fifa '08 on the PC to the PS3 version. Actually, don't. You'd have to compare it to the PS2 version to be fair. Even then, it'd be close...You're kidding right? Who plays soccer games, let alone on the PC?
Supa Fool 01-07-2008, 09:22 PM I dunno, everyone at my school maybe?

... You people will be the death of me.
N. America is the only continent where soccer is not a major sport, dumbass. The only international tournament bigger than Fifa is the Olympics. And Fifa's probably richer. Soccer is a Trillion dollar industry. Not billions, trillions.
Heyyou27 01-07-2008, 11:49 PM ... You people will be the death of me.
N. America is the only continent where soccer is not a major sport, dumbass. The only international tournament bigger than Fifa is the Olympics. And Fifa's probably richer. Soccer is a Trillion dollar industry. Not billions, trillions.Perhaps I worded that incorrectly; what I really meant was who would want to play a sports game on the PC in general, with soccer games being less popular then football games. This isn't about how much better the sport is or isn't, but how shitty a job EA does porting a game. Second of all, the U.S. is the single largest market for videogames, so I think it'd be entirely fair to assume that if a sports game isn't extremely popular in the U.S., it won't be too popular in regions other than Europe. That is, unless of course you think the Japanese are looking to buy a sports game developed and published by an American company, that is based on a sport most popular in Europe.
Let's see if you're right:
Total FIFA 08 sales on Xbox360, PS3, and Wii (http://vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?reg1=All&game1=FIFA+08+-+PS3®2=All&game2=FIFA+08+-+Wii®3=All&game3=FIFA+08+-+X360&weeks=100)
Now let's see how they stack up with Madden 08 sales in the U.S. alone (http://vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?reg1=America&game1=Madden+NFL+08+-+X360®2=America&game2=Madden+NFL+08+-+PS3®3=America&game3=Madden+NFL+08+-+Wii&weeks=100).
So Madden 08 sold a total of 2.6 million copies on the Xbox360, Wii, and PS3 in the U.S. alone where FIFA 08 sold a total of 2.26 million on the same platforms in all regions. To think that an international tournament that brings in "Not billions, trillions" would be outsold by a sports game popular in the U.S. region alone makes me wonder what you're going on about. Now don't get me wrong, I actually like soccer or "football" as you might call it quite a bit, but of course you being the angry overreacting teenager are forced to throw around names while insulting my intelligence. It's alright though, because you didn't hurt my feelings and I'm sure you didn't mean it.

What losers. Sports Games = Fail. I'd rather go out and play sports for real than use my thumbs. Thats not to say I would particularly like to go out and play sports, seeing as I think they are a waste of time and a pathetic attempt to mask the needed releasal of testosterone, and an outlet for closet fruits. I prefer a straight up brawl to get rid of my need for violence. Much more satisfying.
Krusty_The_Klown 01-08-2008, 04:56 PM Guy's you should really check out Backbreaker if you're truly looking for a realistic, next gen football experience. (American, that is) It features motion synthesis in a new engine called Euphoria which simulates every hit, trip and stumble on the fly with seamless animation and physics-driven hits. Every tackle is different and this looks so awesome. You have no idea how much potential this game has. Imported logos, awesome revolutionary game play, and of course really amazing realism. Seriously check out the whole article or at least the trailer. There are other videos and screen shots as well. The game supposedly takes place in the future which explains their uniforms.

gabrielwhist 01-08-2008, 08:30 PM Sounds cool...except that sports games suck. Universally.
So I finished SO 2, FF X-2, FF 10, ZOE 1 & 2, Chrono Cross (Worse. Sequel. Evar), Drakengard (just plain bad), and I saved FF 7 for today, but I was working, so I'm gonna start it tonight. So on the one hand, even though I didn't complete even half the games I set out to finish, I:
(1) Completed a hell of a lot considering I had pesky little obligations to my physical body like eating, sleeping, and shitting (the mind was willing, the flesh was weak).
(2) Learned a valuable lesson in R&D when it comes to plans.
(3) Am not doing this again for another year. Or eight.
gabrielwhist 01-12-2008, 07:23 PM Ladies please! The spirit is willing, but the flesh is spongy and bruised.
Krusty_The_Klown 01-12-2008, 07:43 PM No! Me Want Snu Snu!
I loved that episode. 2 hrs and a little bit into FF7. About to fight that Clod- Robot thing (spent some time training).
Willy_Wonka 01-12-2008, 11:25 PM Is Tomba considered an RPG?
That game is awesome. I wish i still had it =/
