View Full Version : Nirvana
gussa 11-21-2007, 04:56 AM discuss..
(however, keep in mind that i am a diehard nirvana fan.. what you say may result in an endless flame message..)
Nicky 11-21-2007, 09:58 AM I've been planning on getting more into Nirvana... I'm just too lazy at the moment. :P
On days where nothing is happening I listen to every single song ever written by a specific band or artist that I'm planning on getting into... after about half a year of only being familiar with only one or two songs by them.
Siriustar 11-21-2007, 11:28 AM Nirvana was a pretty decent band, and I'm glad they got as famous as they did. I'm not a huge fan, but I will gladly listen to anything they put out. Bleach was a great debut album.
Though I must say, they verge on being horribly overrated. They're a lovechild of Pixies, Melvins, The Raincoats, and Mudhoney. Yeah, they merged those sounds into something people really wanted to hear at the time, but Cobain was never an innovator.
Still, can't blame the guy. Every good band is influenced by their predecessors.

Well... they're mostly deified because he died at a young age. If he were still alive they wouldn't be worshiped but just mutually respected.
gabrielwhist 11-21-2007, 04:16 PM WHY CURT, WHY!?!?!?!?!?! I love Nirvana. Curt made me sad. Emo time.
Nicky 11-21-2007, 05:26 PM Dude... I regret listening to Courtney Love recite her speech at his funeral on youtube. Today of all days. Why... WHY did I do that?
Turkey Day eve should be a happy thing... :P But that rested an underlying depression in me all day today.
Maybe I won't get into Nirvana. Doing so will mean that you'd have to live with being just a little bit depressed for the rest of your life.
They're not bad, but I'm not a fan.

are you kidding me?
there name says it all..
"Nirvana"
when i listen to their tracks (particularly jesus dont want me for a sunbeam , dumb, polly, on a plain)
i just wanna lie down and stare at the roof.
you're not depressed. just calmed... theres a big difference.
Nicky 11-22-2007, 10:07 PM Mmm... I'd say depressed. I might get familiar with their works and all that, but I'll definitely not becoming a 'fan'. It's not going to happen.
(in my signature... that's the advice Kurt could have taken before blowing his brains out... even though there are.. "theories" that it was a "set up"... yeah... okay >_> srsly, there are people who claim Courtney hired people to kill him and then plant the note in the room where he died... yeah... that's believable)
gussa 11-22-2007, 10:39 PM so are you saying you dont like kurt cobain because he killed himself...
gabrielwhist 11-23-2007, 02:34 AM cuz that would be really stupid...
gussa 11-23-2007, 08:17 AM there are more fucked up people in this world...
like hitler..
Nicky 11-23-2007, 11:14 AM Oh yeah, you got me... >_>
Natus Lumen 11-23-2007, 11:39 AM I never liked Nirvana much. Not my type.
gussa 11-23-2007, 10:29 PM ...
Frank 11-23-2007, 11:56 PM Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters are better. I like Nirvana, but the Foo Fighters are more creative and diverse. Their newest album is awesome.
gabrielwhist 11-24-2007, 01:45 AM Dave Grohl is great, but the Foo Fighters don't even occupy the same level of awomesomness.
gussa 11-25-2007, 02:25 AM i think dave grohl secretley wanted to be an actor but was told from an early age he wasnt good enough... every music video, he plays a lead role in an overly complex storyline that sounds more like a movi than a music video.
foo fighters arent even worth comparing to nirvana.
they dont even appear on the same radar.
it would be like comparing the height of a tall tree to the hight of a midd sized skyscraper...
nirvaa has stood the test of time. 10 years after kurt cobains death they are still alive and strong. but you only hear about the foo fighters every time they release a new album...
ive held back as much as i can.
Nicky 11-25-2007, 01:10 PM Dude... it's just music. Hold your horses. People have different tastes. Get over it.
Siriustar 11-25-2007, 10:56 PM In musical proficiency and originality, Nirvana kills Foo Fighters.

Here's how I feel about Dave Grohl. Dave Grohl was a great drummer and should have REMAINED a drummer.
gussa 11-26-2007, 06:05 AM NOT become an actor
=====
Dude... it's just music. Hold your horses. People have different tastes. Get over it.
please refer to my opening post on this matter...
diehaard nirvana fan.
eccentric music listener.
not afraid to shout.
Nicky 11-26-2007, 05:34 PM I'm aware of this... it was just a vain attempt to help change your attitude regarding personal amusement. :P
gussa 11-27-2007, 04:19 AM well there are few things in this world i feel strongly about..
two in fact. and one of those is music.
Nicky 11-27-2007, 03:40 PM I suppose I understand that feeling.
Natus Lumen 11-27-2007, 09:04 PM No. I don't think you do.
gussa 11-28-2007, 06:05 AM not the way i do...
Nicky 11-28-2007, 06:28 AM I'm talking about in general. Not Nirvana.
gussa 11-29-2007, 06:00 AM feeling strongly about something feels different depending on what you feel about...
Nicky 11-29-2007, 08:29 PM Yeah... I know.
You know what? How about we just talk about the music already. Not much constructive seems to be coming out of this thread at all.
gussa 11-30-2007, 04:25 AM fine.
listening to them is like falling from a burning plane in slow motion.
