...me talking about the Coheed and Cambria show on November 17. Some of you may not. Anyhow, Coheed played last night and it was amazing. Two bands opened for them: Fall of Troy and Clutch.
Fall of Troy was the worst band I had ever heard. I am being completely literal and serious. The guy could play guitar (actually that's only half true; he knew how to play tap-harmonics quickly plus three or four chords) but his vocals were TERRIBLE and the rest of the band wasn't really that impressive.
Clutch was not as bad as Fall of Troy, but they still weren't very great. Their soundboard blew out halfway in to their set, so their drummer just soloed while they tried to fix it. But...they couldn't. So they stopped early and went off.
Coheed and Cambria was predictably amazing (they were right up there with Muse's last ACL show). And the fans were great too. When a guitar tech brought Claudio's Explorer out on to the stage everybody cheered and people booed the souncheck guy and told him he was the worst soundcheck guy they had ever heard. The band was insanely awesome, when they finally did come on. They played all of their biggest and/or best songs from four albums and everything sounded perfect, other than that you couldn't hear the singer because everyone was really really loud. Their set was a well-rounded one with a few nice surprises thrown in, like combining songs and changing up riffs. They encored with Welcome Home, pretty much their most heavy song, and then a sixteen-minute version of The Final Cut, a song about a guy who...umm...chops his girlfriend into pieces because she betrayed him.
Even if you don't like any of these bands, I highly recommend buying tickets to the show, if you have a little spare time and if they haven't passed your city yet.
