View Full Version : Murdoch's expanding media empire: good or bad?

Well fairly recently, Rupert Murdoch, owner of many major media sources, including Fox News and everything under it (including Myspace, a news channel in every major city, and a lot of internet space) finally bought the Wall Street Journal after some heavy debating. He plans to expand the Journal to report economic news statistics in other countries for other countries, and he's making tons of profit fast.

I think his media empire is going to expand and grow like a snowball, and eventually all major media sources will be owned by Rupert Murdoch, and all his sub-companies. Well, I suppose it will be extremely difficult for him to take over all media, but what would happen if the places we trust most were absorbed into his empire?

Opinions? None? Crickets?

Well, quite frankly I'm not really concerned about Murdoch, in fact, NewsCorp only has a 26 billion dollar marketshare, as opposed to NBC Universal, that, in part of General Electric, has a 125 billion dollar marketshare, and thats not even including Vivendi's share.

I don't like him because he was part of the reason Arrested Development got canceled.

I just think he's an idiot, trying to take over every major newspaper in America.

I just think he's an idiot, trying to take over every major newspaper in America.I wouldn't call a person who happens to hold a 35% share in a company who's net worth is over 26 billion an idiot.

Okay, I can't resist. Is Paris Hilton not an idiot because she's one of the most wealthy people alive?

She didn't actually work for her money though (Ok, maybe like 1% of it).

Murdoch doesn't work for his money nearly as hard as most. He just decides where and when to expand.

And sorry to bust you're buttons, but theres a difference between a self made man, and someone who does absolutely nothing, in achieving their fortune.

Murdoch doesn't work for his money nearly as hard as most. He just decides where and when to expand.
And thats not what you call smarts? I could safely say that managing a multi-billion dollar corporaiton requires a significant ammount of intelligence.
