... by Smashing Pumpkins. Anyone care? I haven't heard any tracks from it yet but I'm sure it can't be terrible.

Although I gotta admit that the album's message seems kind of... fake..... ish.

think global warming is an issue that is currently relevant, time sensitive, and a symptom of the shortsightedness of the U.S. As a broader metaphor, the drowning Statue of Liberty, a revered icon of the U.S., symbolizes the eminent demise of many of the ideals upon which the nation was founded. Civil liberties, freedom of speech, privacy, etc. have been decreasing since 9/11. The sun in the image could either be setting or rising and this ambiguity shows that there is still hope to turn things around... The U.S. is the dominant global force. When things are going wrong in the U.S. they are probably going wrong around the world. I think this image conveys both the U.S. situation and its larger global implications.

I'm getting kind of tired of these political albums...

Listening to Doomsday Clock right now though, I kind of like it. Although that's their single from Transformers so I guess that doesn't really count.

Billy Corgan being a douche with D'Arcy and Iha to soften the blow will always be better than just straight-up Billy Corgan being a douche.

Zeitgeist doesn't have the same variety and depth of previous SP works; it comes off feeling powerful and driving (i.e. Zero if it were an entire album) but without the finesse, subtlety, differing musical attitudes, etc. of, say, Siamese Dream.

It's terrible. Tarantula is the only decent song on the whole CD, the rests sound like Smashing Pumpkins without the dreamy quality that made it so great.

I heard reviews that the album was just "meh".

I really don't like Smashing Pumpkins. I really have tried listening to SP, because I think James Iha is a badass from his work with APC, but really, I think Billy Corgan could not have a more annoying voice.

It's kind of an acquired taste.

Yeah. I can definitely see that. Kind of like wine: it tastes like crap when you first try it, but when you see all the cool suave sophisticated people drinking it, you want to learn to like it.

Except I don't necessarily want to be like all the people who like Smashing Pumpkins.
