Was Awesome! The battle engine was different and took some getting used to but I still give it my "I like eet." The only thing was that the game is so huge, the only reason I will be able to get everything is because I have a strategy guide.

I got bored with it a ways in. I found myself grinding levels too often; I hate grinding. But there were so many times I had to; skill and intelligence only get one so far.
Thus, I quit playing. I might pick it back up sometime, but until then, 'meh'.

Continuously fighting monsters, so you can gain levels and loot.

Fight one of the bombs (the demonic red fireballs that float in the air and attack by hurling at you) invading the airship, use Kimahri's Lancet on the bomb, learn self-destruct from it, get his overdrive full, fight the battle as normal, and bring down the last 6,000 - 7,000 HP it has left using Kimahri as a bomb. As long as you don't mind Kimahri not gaining 2 or 3 sphere levels, that's the best way to go, especially if you haven't done much grinding. Another tip is not to cast haste on yourself and not to cast slow on Evrae.

As for XII, I heard it sucked. Apparently the story was boring and confusing and as one kept on expecting it to get better it stayed pretty boring the whole time.

Just what I've heard. I haven't played it.

I remember that fight; I didn't have any trouble with it. I started having problems further in. Giant boss...*grumble*...so many status effects...*grumble*...

Use a warp mote to get rid of all the other soldiers at once then focus fully on Judge Ghis, he is not that tough and if worse comes to worst you can use a Quickening. It took me a lot of training to beat him but the nice thing is that you can trip the alarms and fight more and more enemies to rack up a big battle chain, try to get it over fifty, that way you will get another title in the Sky Pirate's Den. Good luck.

I got it for Christmas, and I was seriously playing it non-stop. Then I lent it to a good friend of mine and, well, haven't played it since. I kinda stopped because I got to a point where the monsters were pretty goddamn strong. I didn't feel like leveling, so yeah. I thought it was quite fun though. The only thing I hate is that the Chocobo has a time limit.

happylittleClayFox
06-01-2007, 01:52 PM
I am about level 60 now, so the only monsters I can train on are really powerful, I don't know how the hell I am going to get to level 99 for anyone. Also, about the chocobo time limit, you can go from one end of the map to other within the time limit.

Ah, the environments are so much different. They intentionally sacrificed the smooth rendering so you could move the camera and still perceive depth in the game. Before there was only one angle per map. Now, the game is alive!

ahh well thats good.
i like to look around

happylittleClayFox
06-02-2007, 09:44 PM
I discovered it more in depth all at once. It became obvious that things up close were less detailed and noticeably done in polygon rendering. Also, I noticed that the far backgrounds which could not be perceived from multiple angles in the same map space were still done in the high-grade graphics which are used for the movie scenes.

final fantasy is always about the story...

Ok. Explain the moral of the story of the first game, as every decent story has a decent moral or lesson.

gussa

the first story is so old it was before they invented a true storyline technique.
but the later ones such as ff7 and so on have become better

happylittleClayFox
06-04-2007, 05:56 PM
The first story had the cheesy moral "good conquers evil." In the end the four Warriors of Light defeat the beefed up Garland (happens to be your first and last boss) and restore peace to Gaea. Once you got to FFVII though, the stories were much more in depth and as you said better. Since then almost every Final Fantasy game has had several clearly stated lessons. Except VIII, it really only seemed to say "love endures all things" which is nice, uplifting and so on, but seriously, who gives a shit when there are giant monsters and evil sorceresses to kill as well as save a whole bloody planet. Love seems more appropriate for after all that mishegas(Yiddish word meaning "crap to deal with") is over with.
=====
And I know I am probably going more in depth with the meaning behind the stories. I do not care.

I'm playing FFVII now. My girlfriend somehow found it brand new and got it for me for my birthday since my last copy was unplayable. I've had it since yesterday and I've accumulated 15 hours (I played all day yesterday and all morning) and I'm still going. Additionally, I racked up 180 hours on my original file of FFX and I rather enjoyed FFIX, but VIII was teh sucked. I've never played any FF that came before VII. Except for Tactics GBA.

VIII was only good for one thing: the music. Otherwise, it stank. Also, Gussa, I was wrapping up VIII(eight) not VII(seven)

Where are you in FF7? And you should totally get FF's 1, 2, and 4-6 for the GBA if you have one.

If I was not broke, I would splurge on Final Fantasy stuffs. Of course I still want to have a good amount of cash for when Square-Enix opens their merchandise store for North America, I will be buying many things at that time.

I'm having little hope in Final Fantasy in the future, yet I'm still much of a fan that I can't wait for Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings for the DS.... and that I would consider buying a PS3 just to play Final Fantasy 13. But really, gameplay has really gone down. I especially don't like the music anymore. Nobuo needs to come back :[[[[[[[[[[[[[

Actually, Nobuo has had a fairly large hand in the new music but he has really only done a few new pieces such "Battle on the Big Bridge"(Gilgamesh battle theme in FFXII) but even that seems to be a re-cut of the the old one. All I can say in terms of the changes Square-Enix has been making is that they are trying to draw in a larger fan base. For the longest time their stories went discarded because many gamers simply didn't like RPG's or turn-based fighting engines. By adapting the combat engine from Final Fantasy XI to Final Fantasy XII they ensured two separate marketing groups: die-hard Final Fantasy platformer fans and fans of Final Fantasy XI in which they brought in an entirely new battle engine so that combat could be had in real time. They are going to keep experimenting with new game engines for two reasons. First, it is exciting and they will constantly expand their fan base and second, us die-hard fans will stick by Square-Enix through all of it. We might complain like when Squaresoft and Enix merged but it will be worth it, Square-Enix has already surpassed all hopes for what the new super company could be.

if they wanted to experiment in realtime fighting, didn't they do that in the kingdom hearts series?

If you guys miss the turn based action, then you probably aren't looking forward to FFXIII. It's supposed to step even further into real time combat *I think*.

I love kingdom hearts, and I like the style of fighting in the series. I just don't like the weird attempt at fusing turn based and real time combat. It is kinda gay. Plus I like the FF titles staying in turn based. It is almost tradition.

gussa
07-02-2007, 11:20 AM
yes..... kingdom hearts used a battle system using the circle button etc to perform different attacks....
however the final fantasy series effectively makes a list of attacks for you to choose (to increase the focus on strategy in the game)
fusing the two components does not work well....

No, many real time fighting games give options on how to fight. Combos and specials for example. Kingdom Hearts, a real time RPG, allowed you to set spells and items *maybe not items, I can't remember* to a quick-use slot. I don't see why a real-time RPG/possible fighter can't present the same options.
*I'm only going off of what I know. I've heard that FFXIII has a Devil May Cry like fighting system.*

gabrielwhist
07-02-2007, 05:35 PM
Yeah, there are quick slot spells and items, four slots. Though I think it only works for items in the second one. I like KH gameplay, and real time fighters, and turn based rpgs. Its all good. I just dont like the weird fusion presented in FF12.

Kind of like I said before, a "larger fan base" is being created with the new battle engines. They are still keeping the turn-based one but are using it mainly in the remakes. The FFVII remake for the PS3 will still be turn-based.
